Job Summary
The Merchandiser develops seasonal merchandise strategies for licensed categories to drive growth across Carhartt retail stores. This role is responsible for building and executing assortments that align to financial plans while creating compelling, easy-to-shop in-store experiences for the consumer.
Responsibilities include building and editing assortments, influencing investments, analyzing sales, GM%, and KPIs to identify opportunities, and partnering cross-functionally to deliver impactful product presentations and storytelling within the store environment. The Merchandiser also plays a key role in translating product strategies into clear visual direction and in-store experiences that resonate with customers.

Associate Responsibilities
  • Drive seasonal merchandise strategies and product presentations to create compelling in-store experiences and maximize revenue and productivity
  • Buy assortments from vendor product lines and build strategies aligned to category and retail channel objectives
  • Analyze business trends, including sales, GM%, and KPIs, to identify opportunities and partner cross-functionally to execute against them
  • Communicate business results, seasonal strategies, and visual presentation direction to cross-functional partners, including merchandising, planning, inventory, marketing, and store operations teams
  • Monitor the market and competitive set to identify product trends, assortment opportunities, and in-store presentation ideas
  • Participate in the development of seasonal financial plans and monthly forecasts by category to maximize profitability and inventory productivity
  • Partner with planning and allocation to manage open-to-buy, inventory flow, and chase opportunities
  • Develop and deliver store-focused visual merchandising guidelines aligned to product strategies and business goals
  • Partner with store teams to ensure execution of merchandising presentations and gather real-time feedback from stores
  • Build strong vendor relationships to influence assortments, product opportunities, and long-term business growth
  • Partner with marketing and creative teams to ensure in-store storytelling and product presentation needs are met across key business moments
  • Mine consumer insights through store feedback, customer interactions, and performance trends to identify opportunities to optimize the assortment and experience

Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience

Required Skills & Experience
  • 4+ years of corporate Retail Merchandise Buying experience or industry related corporate experience required
  • Experience working with product assortments, financial plans, and inventory management
  • Strong analytical skills with understanding of retail metrics (sales, GM%, inventory productivity)
  • Ability to work across both tactical execution and strategic planning
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills across cross-functional teams
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Preferred Experience
  • Apparel, retail, or consumer products experience
  • Experience working with external vendors or licensed product partners
  • Familiarity with merchandising tools, reporting systems, or retail analytics platforms

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • This position has a Hybrid location: Associate will work on-site regularly as needed for work activities.
  • Carhartt is a tobacco free workplace.
  • Office environment; cubicle setting. Extended periods of time sitting, standing, typing on a computer is required
  • Light Lifting (10-15 lbs)
  • Travel may be required up to 10%
  • After Hours and Weekend Hours if necessary
