Overview

The Associate Director (AD) provides clinical finance and administration leadership for the Department of Psychiatry, reporting to the Director of Clinical Administration. The AD supports the Vice Chief of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health for YNHH and manages a $62M annual clinical operation budget, overseeing patient care revenue, clinical contracts, and medical director support. The AD ensures the administrative and financial stability of the clinical mission, including financial and strategic planning, faculty recruitment, compensation, and tracking provider productivity, and manages a team that provides clinical finance and administration services.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Provide efficient delivery and integration of administrative services for the unit, serving as point of contact for service providers and monitoring provider adequacy.
  • Partner with the LA to build financial plans, provide analysis and reporting, authorize transactions per policy, and prepare and analyze unit budgets.
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls, take corrective action to protect Yale’s assets, and ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Connect the unit with the university by engaging in university administrative priorities, representing unit needs, and sharing best practices.
  • Develop high quality Business Office talent, participate in HR processes, and cultivate diversity within the unit.
  • Partner with the LA to shape administrative and operational priorities, translate strategy into action, recommend resources, and assess potential issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Well‑developed managerial, decision‑making, planning, organizational, problem‑resolution, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to adapt styles and negotiate effectively with individuals at all levels.
  • Strong financial reporting and quantitative skills, including creating and analyzing financial reports, budgets, and forecasts using tools such as Excel.
  • Solid understanding of internal control concepts and implementation in a complex business environment, including change management.
  • Proven ability to manage time and resources, monitor progress, and redirect efforts as needed.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Understanding of Yale's Financial and Administrative systems, including Workday and YBT, and familiarity with university policies and procedures.
  • Experience in a sponsored assets research environment or finance administration within an academic or highly regulated setting, with knowledge of federal, state, and sponsor regulations.
Required Education and Experience

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and five years of related work experience, including demonstrated leadership, project management, and/or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
