About the TeamThe Digital team focuses on delivering a superior customer experience on petsmart.com and our mobile app. The team also guides revenue and profit growth for the digital business. Digital team associates focus on delivering initiatives that help our pet parents find and discover products, bring enterprise priorities to life digitally, design new user experiences, build new features and capabilities, and manage key omni-channel programs. The team takes a data-driven approach and leverages quantitative and qualitative insights to optimize the experience and make business decisions.About the Location

Collaborative Work Environment:At PetSmart, teamwork and connection are core to how we thrive. This role is based at our Phoenix Home Office, with an expectation of working a minimum of four days in the office each week. In a standard work week, associates may work up to one remote "flex day" (with leader approval). About the Job

SUMMARY

The Director, Digital Category Analytics shapes the enterprise digital analytics vision by delivering actionable insights that inform strategy and drive measurable business growth. This role operates as a strategic partner across the organization, translating complex data into clear, compelling recommendations for executive decision-making. The Director is responsible for leading both strategy and implementation of digital data tagging critical to running and optimizing the digital business, and ensuring the rigor, alignment, and integrity of Digital planning and forecasting processes, enabling accountability and performance optimization across the Digital business

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Own the development and execution of short- and long-term strategic sales plans and business cases for key digital growth initiatives; build data-driven models informed by traffic trends, promotional strategies, conversion dynamics, emerging capabilities, and macroeconomic factors
  • Establish financial targets for digital technology investments and collaborate with Product and Technology leadership to inform prioritization and resource allocation
  • Oversee Digital planning and forecasting cycles (annual, quarterly, weekly, daily), ensuring accuracy, alignment, and accountability across Finance, Corporate Planning, and MP&A
  • Drive P&L performance by identifying growth opportunities, risks, and operational levers to achieve sales, margin, and profitability objectives
  • Direct traffic and conversion planning in partnership with Media and Marketing, aligning demand generation strategies with financial goals
  • Synthesize insights across multiple data sources to deliver cohesive performance narratives and translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations
  • Define and advance digital analytics strategy spanning site optimization, digital experience, site merchandising, services, and omnichannel programs
  • Guide a high-performing Digital Analytics team responsible for analytics implementation and governance, including tagging strategy, user acceptance testing, data validation, and adoption of best practices in collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Champion robust process and ensure effective execution of tagging for new site functionality to enable critical digital data collection to drive business decisions
  • Oversee Digital Category Analytics, delivering category-level insights that optimize promotional strategies and enhance customer experience
  • Influence senior leadership through data-backed insights, strategic storytelling, and forward-looking recommendations
  • Foster a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement through test-and-learn methodologies
  • Build organizational capability by developing talent, strengthening performance management practices, and mentoring future leaders

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, Analytics, Merchandising or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years working in retail, preferably ecommerce
  • 5+ years managing direct reports
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills

TECHNICAL SKILLS 

  • Familiarity with enterprise data warehouses and digital data sources (e.g., Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics)
