Description
The Gloucester County Engineering Department is currently hiring a Civil Engineer II to provide engineering services for Gloucester County and Gloucester County Public Schools. Candidates with the ability to collaborate effectively with County leadership, School division leadership, and other stakeholders are encouraged to apply.
Under direction, the Civil Engineer II performs advanced engineering and project management duties for the County and Gloucester County Public Schools. Employee must exercise initiative and independent judgment in ensuring that necessary work is performed in a timely manner. Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with engineers, contractors, and the general public.
Reports to the Director of Engineering Services.
Job Highlights
  • Performs inspections of projects under construction to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications of new construction, alterations, and repairs.
  • Coordinates and reviews the work of contractors.
  • Researches standards, products, design methods, and codes; analyzes engineering data; reviews engineering drawings and contract specifications.
  • Performs engineering services for Gloucester County and Gloucester County Public Schools.
  • Provides engineering support for school construction, renovations, additions, athletic facilities, and site improvements.
  • Coordinates engineering services with school administrators, maintenance staff, architects and contractors.
  • Surveys proposed construction sites.
  • Directs and participates in technical and complex engineering areas such as construction document development based on EJCDC and AIA standards.
  • Ensures solid waste management services are provided in accordance with contract.
  • Researches, coordinates, and prepares federal, state and local grant applications for various programs and projects.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries from the general public to include citizens, contractors, consultants and community stakeholders.
  • Prepares correspondence, memorandum, reports, etc. regarding technical and contractual matters.
  • Prepares and monitors budgets for construction projects.
  • Serves as liaison with State and regional officials.
  • Presents capital projects and engineering reports to the Board of Supervisors, School Board, Planning Commission, County Administrator, and School Administrator on engineering projects.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, seminars and training courses as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or related field.
  • Civil engineering degree accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in civil engineering, or a related field, including extensive project management experience. Experience involving public sector capital projects preferred.

Special Requirements
  • Valid driver's license; possess and maintain a driving record that meets established Gloucester County Driving Standards.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required.
  • Pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and may be subject to subsequent physical examinations to ensure he/she meets job-related physical requirements.
