DESCRIPTION/JOB SUMMARY
To be part of a team responsible for designing, prototyping, testing, and assembling new rehab power chairs and seating systems, and improving on existing products in accordance with the company's procedures and protocols
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
โข Design and analyze mechanical systems and assemblies including but not limited to high-load structural systems, suspension systems, vehicle chassis, and other powered or manual positioning systems
โข Develop, release, and revise mechanical drawings and 3D models
โข Innovate new designs while leveraging state of the art manufacturing processes
โข Ensure designs' safety, effectiveness, manufacturability, reliability, and Superior Product at Reduced Cost (SPARC) initiatives are met
โข Perform inspections, verification and validation testing, and work cooperatively with other departments which perform inspections and testing
โข Meet and fulfill project timelines and budgets
โข Facilitate general project collaboration and open communication between various internal departments
โข Assist in continuous improvement of design procedure and protocol to help drive design efficiency and lean processes
โข Lead by example and assist in the training and development of less experienced engineers
โข Travel to domestic and international contract manufacturers as needed for product launches
โข Ensure all safety and security rules are strictly observed and any accidents, incidents or injuries are promptly reported to management
โข Complete the Annual CTPAT Security Training
โข Focus on continuous improvement, and consistently demonstrate good business judgment
โข Work effectively with all Pride departments to exceed internal and external expectations
โข Pride retains the discretion to modify duties and/or assign other duties as necessary

Must have:

โข Intermediate working knowledge of 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or Creo
โข Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
โข Strong mechanical inclination
โข Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
PREFERRED SKILLS
โข Basic familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and SolidWorks Simulation preferred
โข Basic understanding of Lean Principles preferred
โข Basic working knowledge of Assistive Technology applications preferred
โข Basic familiarity with American National Standards Institute/Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (ANSI/RESNA), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards preferred
โข Basic understanding of Permanent Magnet DC motor theory and design preferred
โข Intermediate understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) preferred
โข Intermediate understanding of various manufacturing methods and their respective effects on component design preferred
โข Intermediate working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or Product Data Management (PDM) systems preferred
โข Lift/push/pull 40 lbs. preferred
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
โข At least 2 years of experience as a Design Engineer I at Pride Mobility Products Corporation, OR at least 3 years of experience in designing mechanical systems and assemblies
โข At least 1,000 hours or 1 year of equivalent experience in 3D solid modeling of mechanical components and assemblies along with 2D detail drawings
โข At least 1 year of experience utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
โข At least 1 year of hands-on experience with machining, welding and fabrication of mechanical assemblies preferred
โข At least 1 year of hands-on experience in the design, manufacturing and assembly of fabricated mechanical components and systems preferred
โข At least 1 year of experience specifically designing rehab mobility products preferred
โข Current or previous successful employment experience with Pride Mobility Products Corporation preferred
REQUIRED EDUCATION
โข Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, OR an Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 6 years of the required experience
PREFERRED EDUCATION
โข Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
โข Certification or Degree in a Rehabilitation Engineering related field preferred
