Job Overview

The Design Engineer is responsible for creating concept drawings for new product ideas and conducting design studies to identify the most effective configurations. This role collaborates closely with the engineering design team, modifies existing designs for similar applications, and develops detailed prototype drawings. Additionally, the Design Engineer updates design drawings and bills of materials for existing standard equipment to implement improvements and standardize engineering enhancements across products.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field with three plus of drafting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Previous experience with industrial heat-treat furnace design, operation, and engineering strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of engineering scopes, technical specifications, and project execution processes
  • Proven experience reviewing and negotiating and technical contract terms
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation abilities
  • Familiarity with engineering documents, bills of material, and production scheduling is a plus
  • Experience coordinating with vendors, customers, and internal engineering teams
  • Comfortable working in field environments, including exposure to noise, vapors, and physical hazards
  • Physically capable of lifting to 50 lbs. and performing hands-on tasks related to equipment handling

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Exercises independent judgment in the planning, organization and completion of assignments
  • Makes recommendations on the utilization of new drafting and design techniques, normally within area of specialization
  • May act as group leader by assigning, checking, and reviewing the work of less experienced drafting personnel and by training them in progressively more difficult work methods
  • Very good understanding of AutoCAD 2D
  • Capable of producing drawings along with making design decisions and generating Bill of Material Information
  • Design calculations for equipment sizing, heat balances, mechanical system designs and sizing,
  • Refractory designs, drive systems and component designs and sizing, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, foundation layouts and loadings
  • Manufacturing and fabrication specs & scopes of work; actual component selection;
  • jobsite startup support; jobsite trouble shooting.
