Senior Application Engineer โ€“ Electrical

Judd Wire Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is looking for a Senior Application Engineer - Electrical for our Turners Falls, MA office. This candidate will join the Design and Development team, focusing on high-speed data cables across markets. This engineer will be a member of cross-functional teams developing new products, and will maintain and improve standards for existing products and product platforms.  The engineer will work within the company to identify problems and implement solutions associated with product performance, design, or materials.  The engineer will also communicate with customers to answer questions about product application and performance.

Hiring Range:

$87,883.54 - $120,840 per year (exempt)

Job Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Design and develop high-speed data cables in support of new business opportunities. Lead or participate as key member of cross-functional teams to develop new product platforms and platform extensions.  Understand relevant industry and customer specifications and existing products to inform development decisions.
  • Write application guidance for high-speed data cables and answer customer requests for additional information on product performance and use.  Participate in customer meetings to understand customer input for current and future products and provide recommended solutions.  Establish test plans with customers and qualifying agencies to approve product changes and maintain approvals.
  • Create and maintain material and product specifications, bills of material, and manufacturing instructions for existing product platforms.  Create new and improve existing design standards for Judd Wire products.  Evaluate and implement improvements to products and instructions to achieve quality, cost, and efficiency improvements.
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Quality concerning product design and testing.  Lead design review and corrective action meetings for production products to resolve problems in design and workmanship. 
  • Assist with tasks and/or projects assigned by direct manager or senior management.  Perform other similar duties as required within the department, or as assigned by manager.  Coordinate with Engineering team to share supporting task workload as appropriate.

Qualifications:  

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering, or degree in other Engineering field with applicable coursework or experience.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in the wire and cable industry or related field.
  • Knowledge in transmission line theory, testing, and analysis of results for high-speed data cables, and demonstrated ability to associate test results with the details of the materials and construction of the cable under test.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of wire conductors and insulators, current flow, and electric circuits.
  • Effective technical writing skills for internal and external customers
  • Ability to work within or lead cross-functional teams to solve engineering problems.

Desired Qualifications:  

  • Bachelorโ€™s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the wire and cable industry or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in the product design and development of cables for high-speed signal applications, including Ethernet, USB, LVDS, and similar cables.
  • Knowledge in specifications, standards and product testing protocols for high-speed data cables.
