GPD is currently seeking a dynamic leader to serve as our Civil / Water Conveyance and Distribution Project Manager in the Lexington, KY office.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years’ experience in an A/E firm including a background in site development, sustainability, utility design, including Storm and Wastewater conveyance and water distribution and at least 5 years’ experience directly managing complex projects for multiple stakeholders. The Project Manager will be accountable for the performance of the project. This role includes project management and oversight, client account acquisition and management services, detail design, and review of work completed by group members. Selected candidate will be a visible leader in the office, both internally and externally, while carrying out GPD’s vision and mission.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Management Responsibility
  • Use servant leadership skills to manage staff and project work and to form a cohesive team aligned to achieve a common goal.
  • Prepare or oversee development of scope, schedule, and fees for new projects and additional scope/services requested by clients that yield successful projects for clients and the Company.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date project plans are maintained in the Company’s management information system for all department projects, including project fundamentals, labor projections, financial goals, and quality control planning.
  • Manage projects that may include utility design, water distribution and wastewater collection, studies, field engineering and data acquisition, direct interaction with clients, contracting, and construction administration.
  • Assist with projects focused around public works / roadway design.
  • Mentor and engage with associates to further their career development.
  • Retain associates by engaging in morale-building activities such as one-on-one meetings, collaboration sessions, coaching, training and occasional department or office social events.
  • Regularly communicate with other Project Managers, Group Directors, and staff in other offices on department capabilities for workload-sharing and cross-selling to internal and external clients.
  • Proactively seek opportunities for leadership and growth by volunteering to assist a senior manager with operational, marketing, or technical activities.
Marketing Responsibility
  • Assist business development staff with the development and maintenance of client relationships.
  • Assist in developing client proposals for projects to ensure a complete scope that meets Company, industry, and client standards and expectations.
  • Present a professional and positive image of GPD Group
Technical Responsibility
  • Complete technical tasks including design and quality review.
  • Ensure that project documents are consistent with project plans and within project scope and budget.
  • Manage data research, collection, and compilation efforts.
  • Analyze and correlate scientific and engineering data and recognize discrepancies in results using a series of related detailed steps or processes.
  • Identify problems, evaluate options for resolution including risks associated with each, and implement appropriate solutions.
Quality Program Responsibility
  • Responsible for proper quality assurance and quality control for projects in accordance with GPD’s QA/QC Program, industry, and client standards and expectations.
  • Hold team members and reviewers accountable for quality.
  • Verify and ensure that brainstorming is occurring for all projects and participate in brainstorming as appropriate.
  • Ensure quality control is being implemented on sub consultant work product.
  • Work with team members to maximize profitability while maintaining a high level of quality.
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Hold a Kentucky professional engineering registration (PE).
  • 10+ years’ experience in the utility / water conveyance and distribution industry.
  • Experience with roadway / transportation facility design a plus.
  • Experience / relationships in the Lexington, KY area.
  • Experience with KYTC a plus.
  • Experience developing and overseeing project scope, schedule, and fees for new projects and additional scope/services requested by clients.
  • Proficient understanding of AutoCAD and / or Microstation (Openroads).
  • Thrives in a collaborative project environment and enjoys all forms of communication while working with clients and team members (virtual, in-person, phone).
  • Enjoys taking on a leadership role not only as a technical expert in our field but as a servant leader in the community and within the company.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to develop strong client and subconsultant relationships.
  • Capable of managing multidiscipline teams using servant leadership to meet project deliverable and milestone goals.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
