Job description

Location : Cerritos, CA

Salary : $70,000 - $75,000

Summary

The Associate Design Engineer supports the design and development of sheet metal kiosk products under the guidance of senior engineering staff. This role assists with creating 3D models, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation while developing practical engineering skills in design, fabrication, and product development. The Associate Design Engineer collaborates with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and other departments to deliver accurate, manufacturable designs and continuously improve existing products.

Essential Duties
  • Assist with creating and revising 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks Pro.
  • Learn and apply sheet metal design principles while developing manufacturable product designs.
  • Support senior engineers in translating product concepts into production-ready documentation.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and fabrication documentation.
  • Modify existing designs to incorporate engineering changes and component updates.
  • Participate in prototype builds, product testing, and design validation activities.
  • Assist Manufacturing by answering routine design questions and implementing approved design revisions.
  • Learn Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles through collaboration with production personnel.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and product files within SolidWorks PDM Pro.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and continuous improvement projects.
  • Develop familiarity with company products, manufacturing processes, and engineering standards.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) are required for this position:

Education and Experience
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required or expected to be completed prior to employment.
  • Internship, co-op, senior design project, or other relevant hands-on engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience using SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software through coursework, internships, or professional experience.
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings and mechanical design principles.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication concepts is preferred but not required.
Language
  • Fluent in English.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and work instructions.
  • Able to communicate effectively with coworkers across Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sales.
Mathematical
  • Working knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply engineering calculations to routine design work.
Reasoning
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn new engineering concepts quickly and apply them with guidance.
  • Able to prioritize work, ask appropriate questions, and seek clarification when needed.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment while recognizing when additional technical support is appropriate.
Computer
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with PDM or ERP systems is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to learn new engineering software applications.
Tools and Equipment
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, copier/scanner)
  • Measuring tools (ruler, tape measure, caliper)
  • Common hand and power tools (drill, screwdriver, wrench, pliers)
