Job description

Summary:
ScanSource is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead and develop a team of .NET software engineers supporting critical business applications and partner-facing platforms. This role will be responsible for managing personnel activities, fostering career growth, mentoring team members, driving hiring initiatives, and ensuring the successful execution of Agile development practices across multiple Scrum teams.
The ScanSource development organization is globally distributed, with team members collaborating across multiple regions and time zones. We are looking for a leader who can effectively manage and inspire remote teams while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation. Preference will be given to candidates located near our Greenville, SC headquarters. Local employees are expected to participate in a hybrid work model, working onsite Tuesday through Thursday.
The qualified candidate will combine strong people-leadership skills with a solid understanding of modern software development practices. This individual will partner closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Architects, and business stakeholders to ensure teams deliver high-quality solutions that support ScanSource's internal users, suppliers, partners, and customers. Success in this role requires balancing strategic team development with day-to-day operational leadership, enabling developers to perform at their highest potential while continuously improving Agile delivery processes.
Essential Job Duties:
People Leadership & Talent Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of .NET software engineers working across multiple Agile squads
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, goal-setting sessions, and career development discussions
  • Create and execute individual development plans that support both employee growth and business objectives
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture focused on continuous improvement
  • Provide coaching on both technical and professional development topics, including communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
  • Recognize and address performance issues in a timely and constructive manner
  • Support employee engagement, retention, and succession planning initiatives

Hiring & Team Growth
  • Partner with Human Resources and technical leaders to recruit, interview, and hire software development talent
  • Develop onboarding plans that help new team members become productive and integrated into the organization quickly
  • Build and maintain talent pipelines for current and future staffing needs
  • Assess technical and cultural fit of candidates through structured interviewing processes

Agile Delivery & Scrum Leadership
  • Facilitate and support Agile practices across multiple Scrum teams
  • Ensure teams effectively execute sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
  • Remove organizational impediments that impact team productivity and delivery
  • Partner with Product Owners and business stakeholders to align priorities and manage resource allocation
  • Monitor team capacity, velocity, and delivery metrics to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Promote continuous improvement of Agile processes, development standards, CI/CD practices, and software quality initiatives

Technical Leadership
  • Guide teams in translating business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions
  • Support architectural discussions and technical decision-making while empowering engineers to own solutions
  • Encourage best practices in software design, code quality, testing, security, and operational excellence
  • Participate in solution reviews, code reviews, and technical planning activities as needed
  • Collaborate with architects and senior engineers to establish development standards and engineering roadmaps
  • Drive adoption of modern development tools, cloud technologies, and engineering best practices

Collaboration & Communication
  • Communicate effectively with globally distributed teams and business stakeholders
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships with Product Management, Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, and Business teams
  • Provide leadership updates on team progress, risks, staffing, and delivery commitments
  • Foster transparency and alignment across multiple projects and initiatives

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of software development experience using Microsoft technologies
  • 3+ years of experience leading, managing, or mentoring software development teams
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies and Scrum practices
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented design, and design patterns
  • Experience with .NET technologies including C#, ASP.NET, Web APIs, and related frameworks
  • Experience managing distributed or remote development teams
  • Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with performance management, career development, and employee engagement
  • Experience managing competing priorities across multiple projects and teams
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and cloud-native architecture

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading teams developing cloud-based applications in Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with SQL Server and enterprise data platforms
  • Experience working within ecommerce, partner portal, or customer-facing application environments
  • Scrum Master, Agile, or leadership certifications preferred
  • Experience supporting multiple cross-functional product teams

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work remotely and collaborate effectively with globally distributed teams
  • Ability to participate in virtual meetings and occasional travel as business needs require

Compensation:
Compensation Range: $140,000 - $155,000
Actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on a number of variables including work experience, education and skills/ achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer. This position is not eligible for a variable pay component as part of the hiring range.
