Job description

Job Title:  Associate, Optical Engineer

Job Schedule: 5/8: Employees work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week   

Job Description:

Designs, develops and tests optical technologies and systems. Interacts with device, hardware and software design teams to assist in overall development of optical systems; specifying, selecting and qualifying active and passive optical components, developing and benchmarking system performance models, developing and implementing test procedures and/or evaluating and selecting appropriate test instrumentation. Provides multi-discipline support to instrumentation production by resolving technical issues associated with components, parts, products or systems; testing of new and existing designs and documentation of changes through a formal engineering change notification process. May apply quantitative analysis in determining root cause of highly technical problems and propose, develop and implement solutions for corrective action.

As part of the special mission support, will join a team of similar skilled Optics Engineers, receive training, and operate airborne sensors to collect EO/IR data. This invloves operating sensors from a workstation in a highly modified busness class Gulfstream G550. These missions occur approximatly 10 times a year an consist of 1-2 weeks trips.

Essential Functions:

  • Support development of Optical Engineering tools and procedures for Optical Design, Analysis, Integration, and Test
  • Experience with optical design codes (Zemax, Code V, etc.)
  • Experience with mathematical analysis codes (Matlab, Mathematica, MathCad, etc.)
  • Opto-mechanical experience
  • Knowledge of Optical Metrology (Interferometers, image quality metrics, alignment and test techniques)

Qualifications:

To be eligible, applicants must be pursuing a bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics or related field or have completed their bachelor's degree within the last 12 months, regardless of age.
