Position Summary:
The Professional Math Tutor is assigned to one of two busy walk-in tutoring centers on the SUNY Ulster main campus and at the Kingston Center of SUNY Ulster. The tutors will be prepared to assist students in the math centers as well as via remote video conference. They are charged with assisting and providing guidance to a diverse student body in a variety of math skills and areas. We are seeking tutors with experience helping developmental math students with topics in arithmetic, basic algebra and quantitative reasoning, and we are seeking tutors who are able to assist students with topics through statistics and calculus.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate a group or one-on-one session with students who either seek help in the tutoring center or are referred by their instructor.
  • Be able to balance the needs of several students at once.
  • Be familiar with the topics, teaching methods and requirements of faculty in the particular area of learning.
  • Be familiar with Zoom video conferencing.
  • Work directly with faculty and inform them of the progress of their students.
  • Attend professional development workshops.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Math or Math Education. High level of communication ability on a one to one basis.
  • Experience with teaching and/or tutoring math.

Salary:
An hourly rate of $23.21 an hour.
