REPORTS TO: Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Valid New Jersey Instructional Teaching Certificate
  2. Mathematics endorsement or Master's degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education strongly preferred
  3. Three to five years of demonstrated effectiveness as a classroom teacher of mathematics
  4. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in the development of mathematics programs, evaluation of curricula and evaluation of mathematics instruction
  5. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning.
  6. Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
  7. Expertise in assessment, data collection and data analysis
  8. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
  9. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  10. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Math Coach functions in a non-evaluative role. Information shared in the coaching relationship remains confidential and separate from the formal evaluation process.
The Math Coach is expected to spend approximately 75 to 80 percent of the workday in classrooms engaged in coaching activities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Works alongside classroom teachers in their classrooms to strengthen daily mathematics instruction through co-planning, modeling, co-teaching and reflective feedback.
  2. Supports Tier 1 math instruction across grade levels.
  3. Provides support for small group instruction in partnership with the classroom teacher to strengthen Tier 1 instruction and meet the needs of all learners.
  4. Models research-based math practices for teachers including number sense, computational fluency, conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, problem-solving and productive math discourse.
  5. Co-plans lessons with teachers using grade-level standards, district curriculum and student data to design high-quality math instruction.
  6. Supports teachers in analyzing student work and assessment data to inform instruction and small group support.
  7. Monitors student progress toward grade-level math standards and partners with teachers to adjust instruction based on student need.
  8. Designs math supports that affirm and meet the needs of multilingual learners, students with disabilities and students from diverse backgrounds.
  9. Facilitates job-embedded professional learning through grade-level meetings, planning sessions, common planning time and coaching cycles.
  10. Collaborates with classroom teachers, special education staff, ESL teachers and interventionists to ensure aligned math support for every student.
  11. Works in close partnership with the Supervisor of Math and Science to strongly support district math initiatives and contribute to curriculum development and resource selection.
  12. Plans and provides district-wide professional development in mathematics in collaboration with the Supervisor of Math and Science.
  13. Engages families as math partners through family math events, communication about student math progress and resources that support mathematical thinking at home.
  14. Participates in school-level planning, faculty meetings, committees and district math initiatives.
  15. Maintains professional competence and continuous growth through ongoing learning in math research and coaching practices.
  16. Demonstrates effectiveness through completed coaching cycles, evidence of strengthened Tier 1 instruction, teacher growth in math practice and student math progress.
  17. Upholds school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
  18. Performs other duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be determined as mutually agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Salary Range: $57,330 - $107,184 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and in accordance with VTEA contract salary guide.
