Cost Accounting Specialist
LOCATION: Story City, IA
SUMMARY: Primary responsibilities include preparing and reviewing job costs, profitability reports, and manufacturing reports that accurately reflect the results for the Center of Excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Run daily WIP Calculations, review for variances (estimated to actual)
  • Review and post shop floor transactions, work with production supervisors to research and resolve variances or errors
  • Review and analyze completed job costs and profitability reports; Identify and research variances, and close completed jobs
  • Set and update production standards (run speed, waste, setup time)
  • Assist in the preparation of standard cost reports monthly with comparison to actual costs
  • Complete month end close tasks timely and accurately
  • Assist with the year-end audit and cycle counts
  • Must have ability to be cross-trained and used to assist or backup other areas of accounting
  • Assist with accounts receivable activities as needed (customer invoicing, cash application, intercompany reconciliations, special billing, etc.)
  • Assist with accounts payable activities as needed (processing vendor invoices, entering for payment, and proofing entries).
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field from four-year college or university; or Associate degree in accounting or related field plus 2 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous manufacturing experience preferred, but not necessary.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure including whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
