Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Database Business Analyst to support a shipyard-focused program. This role involves analyzing business requirements, designing database solutions, and supporting data analytics that inform operational and leadership decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have experience with database systems, business process analysis, and data integration, including working with Navy or defense IT systems, and the ability to translate operational needs into actionable database designs and metrics.
Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, optimize, and maintain database configurations and access
  • Manage and support medium- to high-complexity databases, ensuring performance, recovery, and backup processes
  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into database designs, data specifications, and reporting solutions
  • Support the development and maintenance of corporate metrics, dashboards, and data visualizations for operational and performance tracking
  • Create analytic reports for shipyard maintenance activities, including project metrics, execution metrics, productivity metrics, and operational summaries
  • Analyze cost performance, schedule adherence, work stoppages, and capacity utilization across shipyard operations
  • Integrate data across multiple IT systems, including Navy IT environments
  • Develop new metrics or enhance existing ones to drive performance and decision-making, covering areas such as planning, quality, material, safety, and testing
  • Conduct data collection, analysis, and cost-benefit assessments
  • Develop custom queries and database solutions to meet operational and reporting needs
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across all supported systems
  • Participate in technical user groups and metrics-focused working groups
  • Support teams with database requirements documentation and system interface mapping

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related discipline
  • 4-7 years of experience in database administration, business analysis or data management
  • Proficiency with data analysis and reporting tools
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in a related technical discipline
  • Extensive experience (8-10+ years) in database analysis, business intelligence, or data management
  • Extensive experience with Navy IT systems or other large-scale, defense-related IT environments.
  • Strong SQL and database query development skills
  • Experience with business intelligence or reporting platforms, including Business Objects or similar tools
  • Prior experience supporting large-scale defense or Navy programs
