Job description

Overview
Are you an analyst who's found you'd rather build the tools than run the reports? Do you get energy from new AI technology and from helping the people around you get better at using it? We're looking for someone to do exactly that, in the context of Microsoft's biggest asset: our people.
This is a great opportunity to join Microsoft's People Analytics team as we build the AI systems that put trusted, self-serve people-data answers in the hands of the whole HR community. Our thesis is simple: AI handles the breadth so our people can go deeper - self-serve answers the common questions, and we move up the stack to judgment, methodology, and trust. We don't just answer analytical questions; we encode how our analysts think into AI-ready skills and tools so every answer is consistent, governed, and trustworthy.
In this role you'll be hands-on building capacity across our team: using GitHub Copilot to add capabilities to our AI tools, improve how they perform, and fix what's broken, while staying embedded with the analysts who use them, so what we build reflects what they actually need and reaches people at scale. As a super-user of tools like Cowork, Scout, and GitHub Copilot, you'll also work directly with the product groups behind them, sharing feedback that shapes the roadmap of Microsoft's own AI products. You'll work alongside fellow "learn-it-all" builders who are passionate about their work and eager to collaborate, and you'll help bring the broader People Analytics team along as we all learn to work in new ways.
This is not a traditional analyst role - you won't be producing analyses or reports. Instead, you'll use your analytical background to build the tools that let others get those answers themselves, and to be the voice of the analyst inside our team.
Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Responsibilities
  • Build and extend our people-analytics MCP server: add new datasets, improve answer quality, and cut response times.

  • Diagnose and fix bugs across our AI tools, and test rigorously before things ship.

  • Partner across the People Analytics team to build and test GitHub Copilot skills that encode analytical methods.

  • Prototype new solutions as opportunities emerge across our workstreams, partnering with senior teammates and adapting quickly as priorities shift in a fast-moving, still-forming space.

  • Stay embedded with analysts: learn where the tools fall short and turn that feedback directly into improvements that people actually adopt.

  • Help others level up: share what you learn, teach new AI tools and techniques, and contribute to a growing skills community across the team.

  • Build responsibly with sensitive people data: bake confidentiality, access, and guardrails into what you ship, and handle governed data with strict adherence to privacy requirements and appropriate legal reviews.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics or related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics or related field AND 2+ years experience in data analysis and reporting, data science, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics or related field AND 3+ years experience in data analysis and reporting, data science, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis OR Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics or related field AND 5+ years experience in data analysis and reporting, data science, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis OR equivalent experience.
