About Valar Atomics

At Valar Atomics, we're redefining what's possible in energy. Our mission is to make clean, high-temperature nuclear power scalable-unlocking abundant energy for industry, hydrogen, and next-generation manufacturing. We are a team of builders, engineers, and operators who believe nuclear energy should be fast to deploy, factory-made, and built for the real world. Our first pilot plant in Orangeville, Utah will demonstrate how advanced nuclear systems and fuel fabrication can power the future. Joining Valar Atomics means becoming part of a company where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level.

The Role

We're looking for a CAD Designer with 2-5 years of experience in mechanical or electrical system design. You'll support the engineering team by creating detailed 3D models, drawings, and documentation for complex systems used in power and aerospace applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • CAD Design: Create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings using SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD.
  • Drafting & Documentation: Generate accurate mechanical and/or electrical drawings, including dimensioning, tolerances, and BOMs.
  • Design Support: Work closely with engineers to translate design concepts into production-ready documentation.
  • Revision Control: Maintain design revisions, manage file versions, and ensure consistency across project documentation.
  • Manufacturing Interface: Collaborate with manufacturing and fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable, and cost-effective.
  • Assembly Support: Support prototype builds and assembly documentation, including creating exploded views and installation drawings.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development of design standards, templates, and best practices.

You Will Be Successful in This Role If

  • Are technically driven and motivated to continuously learn and grow
  • Thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Take pride in producing precise, high-quality, manufacturable designs
  • Approach challenges with curiosity, ownership, and attention to detail

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting Technology, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of professional experience in design or drafting.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD).
  • Strong understanding of dimensioning, tolerancing, and fabrication methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and/or electrical schematics.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience in energy systems, aerospace, or high-performance mechanical design.
  • Familiarity with PDM/PLM tools and revision control systems.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Experience producing single-line diagrams or cable routing drawings.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary
  • Equity ownership in a rapidly growing advanced energy company
  • Comprehensive medical benefits
  • Free daily lunch and dinner provided onsite
  • High-impact startup environment with significant ownership and autonomy
  • Opportunities for rapid career growth and internal advancement
  • Direct collaboration with experienced operators, engineers, and industry leaders
  • The opportunity to help build and scale transformative energy technology from the ground up
