Position Summary
Responsible for installation, removal, rearrangement and maintenance on a variety of complex communication and security equipment. May repair and/or add to the University's switch and database.
Required Qualifications
~Installer Repairer Tech I:
~Education equivalent to the completion of high school or GED and completion of a formal technology training course.
~Possess a valid Driver's License and meet the provisions of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations.
~Demonstrated experience with electricity and electronics.
~Ability to distinguish colors.
~Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
~Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image.
~Installer Repairer Tech II:
~All qualifications required of an Installer/Repairer I, plus:
~Five years increasingly responsible work experience to include the following areas: telecommunications installation and repair, outside telephone plant, framework, and cable splicing, video networking, and security equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities
~Installer Repairer Tech I:
~Installs and repairs communications equipment and instruments such as consoles, telephones, network equipment, and key systems.
~Installs and repairs communications wiring such as main cables, distribution cables, house cables, station wiring, network wiring, fiber optics and coax.
~Terminates cable conductors on various terminating devices.
~Places and maintains cables in tunnels, in conduit, buried, or aerial as required.
~Performs testing of, and maintenance of, all communications equipment.
~Operates or utilizes electrical testing equipment, power and hand tools and drafting equipment.
~Posts and maintains installation and maintenance records and files.
~Assists in the design, installation, and maintenance of data communications hardware.
~Assists in the design, installation, and maintenance of security equipment.
~Performs additional official duties as assigned by duly designated administrative authority.
~Installer Repairer Tech II:
~Performs all duties and responsibilities of an Installer/Repairer I, plus:
~Plans and implements distribution and termination facilities such as main distributing frames, intermediate distributing frames, house terminals, and station wiring.
~Rearranges cable conductors to facilitate changes in the overall distribution system.
~Splices cables up to 2700 pairs in size mating up final configuration with the system design.
~Waterproofs cable splice points on various types of cable such as twisted pair, T-screen, and co-ax.
~Assists with the planning and programming for additions to, or modifications of, telecommunication systems.
~May assist with supervising, directing, and training other Installer/Repairers.
~May do some repairs on the University's switch and/or additions. Consults with the Telecommunications Technician, the Telecommunications Manager, the Associate Director of Telecommunications and/or the Director of Telecommunications regarding equipment requirements and problems.
~Interacts with workers, supervisors, directors, department heads, etc. to determine accuracy of system design, method of operation, etc.
