Job description

We're looking to add an Energy Engineer to join our growing Engineering team here at PEC (Pacific Energy Concepts), but before we dive into the nitty-gritty, we'd love to tell you a bit about us.

Weโ€™ve been around for 17 years and are an innovative, growing company thatโ€™s making a significant, industry-wide impact. Our core values- Build to Last, Do the Right Thing, Play to Win, and Push the Envelope, arenโ€™t the typical empty talking points youโ€™ll find floating around, theyโ€™re fundamental to the people we are and the people we hire.

Weโ€™re North Americaโ€™s most innovative energy optimization company. We deliver customized energy-efficiency solutions (like EV Charging Stations, LED Lighting, advanced controls, and Energy Monitoring) that go beyond energy savings, helping our partners "run efficient, save money, and work happy" all while reducing their carbon footprint. This is why brands like Costco, IKEA, Jeld-Wen and Alaska Airlines (to name a few of the 5000+ companies we work with) put their trust in us.

The Job

The Energy Engineer is the customer-facing technical field role within PECโ€™s Engineering function. This role owns on-site and remote technical execution including audits, metering design, system commissioning, dashboard onboarding, and post-deployment troubleshooting, across electric, gas, and water monitoring deployments. The Energy Engineer works directly with customers throughout the delivery lifecycle, carries the field and technical load that keeps the Engineering Manager focused on design and standards, and operates as a core member of the project delivery team alongside Project Management. This is a field-anchored, customer-facing role that requires both strong technical depth and the ability to communicate clearly with customers and internal teams.

This position is based in-person out of our Vancouver, WA office, with regular field travel to customer sites (25-50%).

This position has a hiring range of $88,000 - $110,000. This range reflects the full compensation range across the Energy Engineer role. Final offer will be determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications.

Core Functions:

Field Engineering & Site Execution

Lead on-site technical work across the full project lifecycle, including facility audits, metering design, system commissioning, and post-deployment support. Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers in the field.

Metering Design & Systems Integration

Design submetering and energy data acquisition systems across electric, gas, and water, including meter selection, CT/PT application, and integration with building management systems via BACnet and Modbus protocols.

Customer Engagement & Insight Delivery

Lead dashboard onboarding and demos, deliver energy insights and recommendations based on validated system data, and maintain ongoing customer relationships through post-deployment consulting and troubleshooting support.

Commissioning & Delivery Coordination

Own commissioning of metering and monitoring systems, including verification of communications, point mapping, data accuracy, and system functionality. Coordinate closely with Project Management and vendors to drive successful deployment and project closeout.

Other Duties:
  • Lead on-site facility assessments and energy audits, including identifying major loads, existing systems, metering opportunities, and customer objectives across electric, gas, and water systems.
  • Analyze utility, interval, and submeter data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improved energy performance; translate findings into actionable customer-facing insights and recommendations.
  • Design submetering and energy data acquisition systems, including meter selection, CT/PT application, and integration with building management systems (BMS).
  • Support integration of meters and building systems using BACnet and Modbus protocols, including coordination with field teams and vendors.
  • Develop technical deliverables including points lists, system layouts, and integration documentation to support project execution.
  • Own commissioning of metering and integration systems, including verification of communications, point mapping, scaling, and data accuracy; resolve issues in field and remote environments.
  • Troubleshoot data acquisition, communication, and system performance issues in both field and remote environments.
  • Lead dashboard onboarding and customer demos; develop energy insights and energy management recommendations based on validated system data.
  • Stay current on regulatory standards, protocols, and industry developments; contribute lessons learned and field observations back to Engineering to inform standards updates and SOP development.

Requirements

Education & Experience
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (may substitute Associates degree in engineering discipline with 5+ years of end-to-end field implementation of metering, controls, or building systems integration, including commissioning and troubleshooting).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in energy engineering, energy efficiency, commissioning, or building/facility systems work, including exposure to energy metering or data-driven energy analysis.
  • Experience supporting energy audits, measurement & verification (M&V), or energy analysis work.
  • Experience with energy metering, submetering systems, or building automation/data systems, including commissioning, integration, troubleshooting, or validation of operational data.
  • Field deployment experience in commercial/industrial facilities, including retrofit environments with legacy infrastructure is preferred.
Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to clearly explain and document technical scope, requirements, and system design details.
  • Strong engineering judgement and analytical troubleshooting skills
  • Working knowledge of facility energy systems (electric, gas, water), including major building load types such as HVAC systems, lighting, and plug loads, and basic interpretation of electrical one-lines and panel schedules.
  • Strong understanding of metering concepts including CT/PT fundamentals and load/generation measurement principles.
  • Ability to design energy metering and data acquisition systems that integrate multi-vendor meters, gateways, and building systems.
  • Experience with common building automation and integration protocols, including BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, and Modbus TCP/RTU.
  • Familiarity with energy auditing or facility energy analysis principles, including identifying major energy consumers (including HVAC systems) and evaluating usage patterns.
  • Strong ability to manage priorities and support multiple projects in a field-based, technical engineering environment.
  • Customer-centric mindset focused on delivering actionable energy insights that drive improved energy performance.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn vendor configuration tools and PEC systems quickly.
  • Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative and operate in both field and office environments.
