What You Will Do:
At Independent Software, as a Data Scientist Level 2, you will analyze complex datasets and develop data-driven solutions supporting mission-critical Intelligence Community and DoD programs. Depending on the program, you may work with machine learning, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, data visualization, workflow automation, or other advanced analytical techniques.
This position is ideal for candidates who enjoy solving complex problems, building analytical solutions, and working with large datasets in secure environments.
Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Analyze structured and unstructured datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Develop analytical solutions using Python and modern data science tools.
  • Build and automate data processing workflows.
  • Create visualizations, reports, and dashboards to communicate findings.
  • Develop statistical, predictive, or machine learning models.
  • Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and customer stakeholders to solve mission problems.
  • Document methodologies and communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
 
  • Strong proficiency with Python and experience developing scripts, automating workflows, or building analytical solutions.
  • Experience analyzing large structured and unstructured datasets using statistical, mathematical, or computational methods.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: machine learning, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, data mining, data engineering, or data visualization.
  • Experience cleaning, transforming, and preparing data for analysis.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Experience using analytical tools and technologies such as SQL, Jupyter Notebook, Pandas, NumPy, Spark, PySpark, Hadoop, cloud-based analytics platforms, or similar technologies is desired.

Education and Experience:
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Statistics, Machine Learning, Data Science, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Degrees in Engineering, Computer Information Systems, the physical sciences, or other scientific disciplines with a strong computational, mathematics, or computer science background may also be considered.
  • Candidates with other degree disciplines may qualify if they have earned a Data Science certificate from an accredited college or university.
  • Bachelor's degree with three (3) years of relevant experience, or Associate's degree with five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience includes one or more of the following: machine learning, data science, advanced analytics, statistical analysis, programming (such as Python), data management, data mining, data modeling, artificial intelligence, or software engineering. Experience across multiple areas is preferred.

Clearance Requirement:
 
  • Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
