Job Summary

Provides assessment, treatment, care, education, and evaluation for patients with respiratory insufficiencies. Performs diagnostic electrocardiograms (EKGs), monitor placement (Holter, event, and mobile telemetry), and electroencephalograms (EEGs) providing patient education associated with studies.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assesses patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develops a plan of care based on diagnosis.
  • Implements and monitors patient care plan.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
  • Performs advanced respiratory care modalities.
  • Evaluates respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcomes.
  • Educates the patient and family about the illness, medication, and provides information about community support groups and other available programs.
  • Responds to emergency resuscitation team calls.
  • Attaches electrode leads to proper body areas based on test ordered. Prepares skin and surroundings to ensure valid results.
  • Obtains EKG readings as directed.
  • Programs monitors and registers patients on-line depending on the monitors ordered.
  • Instructs patient prior to and during procedures.
  • Monitors patients during procedures and reports any abnormal findings. Identifies and corrects artifacts.
  • Notes and forwards results to physicians for analysis and interpretation.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy required upon hire OR
  • Associate's degree or higher in related field required upon hire
  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • No experience required
  • RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist with the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required upon hire AND
  • RCP - Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND
  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position
