Job description

Overview: PBC Linear is a leading manufacturer of linear motion systems, components, and actuators. We are searching for an experienced controls engineer to provide technical product support to aid the design, component selection, and troubleshooting of linear motion systems and cartesian robotics using stepper motors, servo motors, drives, sensors, safety equipment & more.The ideal controls engineer has direct knowledge of and experience working with servo motor and stepper motor dynamics, PLCs, controls, servo motors, stepper motors, drives, sensors, & safety equipment as applied in motion control systems.They can properly size and select motors and drives using appropriate load calculations.Knowledge of linear motion components and systems such as actuators, profile rail, ball/lead screws, and linear bearing systems is preferred.The controls engineering will occasionally work with the sales team and application engineers to solve customer problems and recommend PBC Linear products which will meet their application requirements – or help design new products which will meet their requirements.

**Responsibilities / Skills:**

  • Direct knowledge of servo motor and stepper motor dynamics.

  • Direct knowledge of PLCs, controls, servo motors, stepper motors, and their drives.

  • Design, component selection, and troubleshooting of linear motion systems using stepper motors, servo motors, drives, sensors, safety equipment & more.

  • Communicate with other engineering personnel, vendors, and customers regarding controls related opportunities and issues.

  • Provide technical support of the design, construction, operation, and troubleshooting of customer applications and test stands for linear motion products.

  • Mechatronic knowledge of controls, software, and mechanical actuator systems.

  • Tuning servo motor and stepper motor driven linear motion systems.

  • Install and wire electrical components into a control panel.

  • Troubleshooting existing electrical panels to locate a problem and then fix it.

  • Read electrical control panel schematics.

  • Occasionally working with sales team and customers to understand customer application requirements and then either choose appropriate PBC products or help design new products to meet customer needs.

  • Use of electrical design software.

  • Programming PLC systems using IEC 61131-3 PLC languages

  • C++, C#, Visual Basic programming a plus

**Requirements:**

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related 2-year technical degree preferably Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or Mechatronics
