Job description

Role: Associate Consultant – Oracle DBA & Cloud Services
Practice: Infrastructure / Managed Cloud Services (IMS)
Primary Technology: Oracle Applications & Database Administration
Development Areas: OCI, OLA and PeopleSoft

The position is intended to develop into a broader Oracle Cloud and Applications consulting role through structured learning, certification, shadowing, and hands-on customer delivery.

Key ResponsibilitiesOracle DBA & Database Operations
  • Support Oracle application and database environments across production and non-production systems.
  • Perform routine Oracle database monitoring, health checks and administration.
  • Monitor database availability, tablespace utilization, CPU, memory, storage, sessions and database alerts.
  • Support Oracle database backup and recovery using RMAN.
  • Perform Data Pump export/import and database/schema refresh activities.
  • Support database and application cloning activities.
  • Assist with Oracle database and application patching activities.
  • Support user, role, privilege, profile and tablespace administration.
  • Review alert logs, trace files and ORA errors and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Support performance monitoring and basic SQL/database performance analysis.
  • Follow established SOPs, runbooks, change-management and incident-management processes.
  • Participate in production support, incident resolution, RCA and preventive improvement activities.
Oracle Applications / Apps DBA

Develop hands-on capability in:

  • Oracle E-Business Suite architecture and administration.
  • Application tier and database tier administration.
  • Application services start/stop and health monitoring.
  • Concurrent processing and application service monitoring.
  • Oracle EBS cloning and environment refresh.
  • Application and database patching.
  • Configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Performance and availability monitoring.
  • Backup, recovery and DR operational procedures.
OCI & Cloud

Develop practical understanding of:

  • OCI architecture and core services.
  • Compute, Storage, Networking and IAM.
  • OCI database services.
  • Monitoring, Logging and Notifications.
  • Backup and recovery.
  • Security and access management.
  • Cloud provisioning and operational support.
  • Cost, capacity and resource management.
  • Automation and Infrastructure as Code concepts.
PeopleSoft

Build foundational operational knowledge of:

  • PeopleSoft architecture and components.
  • Application Server.
  • Process Scheduler.
  • Web Server.
  • PeopleSoft database architecture.
  • Environment start/stop and health checks.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Backup, recovery and environment refresh concepts.
  • PeopleSoft patching and maintenance processes.
Automation & Operational Improvement
  • Identify repetitive DBA/operational activities suitable for automation.
  • Support scripting and automation initiatives.
  • Contribute to monitoring and alerting improvements.
  • Maintain operational documentation, SOPs, runbooks and Knowledge Base articles.
  • Participate in CCOE/Practice improvement initiatives.
  • Leverage existing Java, API and CI/CD knowledge where applicable to cloud and database automation.
Development Goals

Rajesh's structured development objectives will include:

OCI Foundation Certification
  • Complete OCI Foundation training and achieve the relevant Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Foundations certification.
OLA
  • Develop working knowledge of OLA, including architecture, operational processes, deployment/support methodology and its use within the Oracle managed-services environment.
PeopleSoft
  • Develop foundational PeopleSoft administration knowledge sufficient to participate in routine operational support under guidance.
Oracle Apps DBA
  • Transition existing Core DBA knowledge into practical Oracle Apps DBA capability through training, shadowing and hands-on support.
Performance Expectations

Performance will be evaluated across both customer delivery and capability development, including:

  • Quality and timeliness of assigned support activities.
  • Adherence to SLA, change and operational processes.
  • Reduction of repeat operational issues through documentation and automation.
  • Quality of SOPs/runbooks and knowledge contribution.
  • Progress in Oracle Apps DBA capability.
  • Completion of OCI certification.
  • Demonstrated progress in OLA and PeopleSoft.
  • Ability to independently handle progressively more complex Oracle operational activities.
  • Collaboration with Apps DBA, Cloud, Infrastructure and Application teams.
Target Capability

The objective is to develop Rajesh from his existing Oracle Core DBA foundation into a multi-skilled Oracle Apps DBA / Cloud Associate Consultant capable of supporting:

Oracle Core DBA → Oracle Apps DBA → OCI → OLA → PeopleSoft

while progressively contributing to the broader IMS Oracle Cloud and Managed Services practice.
