Patent Litigation Associate Attorney (IT/Engineering)

Locations: Washington, DC & Palo Alto, CA
Practice Area: IP Litigation (Technology & Engineering)

Direct Counsel is seeking an IP Litigation Associate for a top-tier law firm’s Washington, DC or Palo Alto office. This position is ideal for attorneys with a technical background in IT, engineering, or physics who are eager to take on substantive litigation responsibilities, including courtroom advocacy and depositions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Litigate patent disputes in U.S. District Courts and before the PTAB.
  • Conduct factual and legal research, draft pleadings, and develop case strategies.
  • Participate in discovery on infringement, validity, and damages issues.
  • Take and defend depositions, draft dispositive motions, and handle claim construction briefing.
  • Engage in pre-trial and trial activities, including courtroom advocacy.
  • Collaborate with clients, experts, and internal teams on case strategy.
Qualifications:
  • 2-5 years of patent litigation experience at a comparable law firm.
  • Technical degree (BS or MS) in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or physics.
  • ITC experience is a plus.
