Patent Associate (3–6 Years)

Direct Counsel is representing a nationally recognized law firm seeking a Patent Associate to join its Intellectual Property & Technology practice. This role offers the opportunity to work with innovative companies on protecting and expanding their intellectual property portfolios across cutting-edge technology sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO

  • Advise clients on patent strategy, portfolio development, and intellectual property protection

  • Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and business teams on complex technology matters

  • Support matters involving software, consumer electronics, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies

  • Conduct legal research, prepare filings, and assist with IP-related transactions and disputes

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials

  • 2–6 years of patent prosecution or related intellectual property experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Software Engineering

  • USPTO registration or eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar

  • Strong research, analytical, writing, and communication skills

  • Experience with software development, AI, machine learning, or data technologies is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $235,000 – $305,000, depending on experience. Associates may also be eligible for hours-based bonuses.
