Job description

Responsibilities

Peraton is looking for an IT Support Technician to support a contract onsite in Charlottsville, Virginia. This role is ideal for a "jack-of-all-trades" IT professional who will support multiples systems, networks, and technologies. This role will provide advanced end-user support beyond basic help desk functions while assisting with network and systems administration, device management, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.  

Peraton has served as the prime contractor for this program since its inception in the 1980's. We provide high-level government leaders with reliable secure voice, video, and fax communications anytime, anywhere, in any environment in support of day-to-day operations. We support a secure, worldwide, high-performance communications network comprised of real-time interactive applications allowing complex national and worldwide communications. Peraton provides the O&M of the network infrastructure and its components. We provide integration for development of hardware and software solutions, and engineering support for the delivery of network, system, software, and security solutions.

The IT Support Technician is responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Providing technical support for user networks, systems, and peripheral devices.
  • Troubleshooting hardware, software, and network-related issues.
  • Performing routine maintenance activities, including powering on devices, inspecting and connecting cabling, verifying system status, and validating security configurations.
  • Conducting patch management and firmware upgrades, providing break/fix support, and supporting daily operations and maintenance activities, including onsite support for special events.
  • Providing remote and onsite preventative maintenance support, which may require overnight travel.
  • Acting as an incident manager by coordinating issues with the Network Operations Center (NOC), providing status updates for ongoing incidents, and documenting event closure within the ticketing system.
  • Coordinating and advising technical teams during maintenance outages, authorized service interruptions, lifecycle replacements, and system upgrades.
  • Supporting installation, configuration, and sustainment of network and end-user infrastructure across multiple environments.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance required.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related technical field and five (5) years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree and three (3) years of relevant experience; OR PhD and zero (0) years of relevant experience; OR High School Diploma/GED and nine (9) years of directly related experience may be substituted in lieu of higher education.
  • DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II certification required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in dynamic operational environments.
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

 Desired:

  • Cisco CCNA and/or CompTIA Network+ certifications.
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate.
  • Experience handling COMSEC material and devices.
  • Experience installing, terminating, labeling, and testing structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber optic cabling.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools such as SolarWinds.
  • Experience using ticketing and workflow management systems such as Jira.

Target Salary Range$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
