Description
SAIC is looking for an Engineering Technician V, an SCA position at Crane, IN to support NSWC Crane. This position will need someone experienced and proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) software, AutoCAD, Solid Edge, SolidWorks or CREO. This position is perfect for someone that is organized and willing to work in small teams and with government oversight
EngineeringTechnician V provides professional technical support for engineers and other technical personnel working in areas such as research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement. With a focus on drafting and CAD operations, this role involves applying practical knowledge of engineering, mathematics, and computer-aided design to design, develop, and improve mechanical and electrical components and systems.
This position involves performing non-routine and complex assignments, assuming responsibility for planning and conducting complete projects or portions of larger, technical endeavors. This position will serve as the lead supervisor and provide guidance to other drafting staff. They will adapt plans, design techniques, and layouts to achieve objectives and coordinates with personnel across related activities to resolve challenges and ensure project success.
This position also involves mentoring and training other drafters/CAD operators, making it ideal for a candidate with advanced technical expertise and team leadership experience.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design Development and Drafting:
    • Design, develop, and construct major units, devices, or equipment using advanced CAD tools and drafting software (AutoCAD, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, and CREO).
    • Generate detailed design and engineering drawings, layouts, and schematics based on general guidelines and specifications.
    • Analyze technical data, determine design requirements, calculate design details, and prepare detailed specifications, parts lists, and procedures.
    • Develop designs for equipment, considering factors like size, weight, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Leadership and Support:
    • May oversee and train lower-level drafting staff to assist in project execution and ensure quality in technical deliverables.
    • Review the work of other team members for accuracy, technical adequacy, and alignment with project requirements.

    • An associate's degree in engineering technology, Drafting, or a related technical field. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
    • A minimum of 15 years of technical experience in engineering support, drafting, CAD operations, or a related field.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, CREO, or similar tools.
    • Strong understanding of engineering principles, including mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
    • Experience in drafting, interpreting, and reviewing technical drawings, schematics, and layouts for equipment or component design.
    • Practical knowledge of mathematics or principles of computer science as applied to technical design and problem-solving.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to analyze technical data and provide effective design solutions.
    • Excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy in designs, specifications, and test results.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with engineers and coordinate with related teams.
  • Attributes and Additional Competencies:
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct and complete non-routine and complex technical assignments.
    • Capable of independently planning and executing tasks as well as adapting techniques or layouts based on project needs.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills to balance multiple complex projects with competing deadlines.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the following drawing standards: ASME-Y14.100, MIL-STD-31000.
    • Understanding of Military standards and specifications.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen
    • Ability to obtain a secret level clearance

  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Advanced certifications in CAD software (e.g., Certified SolidWorks, Solid Edge and CREO Certification) are desirable.
    • Experience with design and development of equipment or systems in industries such as aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or similar.
    • Knowledge of applicable industry standards, best practices, and safety protocols.
    Work Environment:
    • This position will be full-time in office position.
