Associate Distribution Engineer
Location: Irving, TX (75039)
Type: 6-Month Contract
Pay Rate: $29.32 / hr W2
 
About the Role
We are hiring an Associate Distribution Engineer to support electric utility design and engineering projects. You will work on overhead and underground distribution systems (4kV to 138kV) while gaining hands-on field and design experience under technical guidance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design Packages: Create design and construction packages for electrical distribution systems, including joint use and equipment maintenance updates.
  • Engineering Calculations: Perform structural pole loading analysis, guying calculations, conductor sags/tensions, and voltage drop analysis.
  • Field & Office: Perform local site inspections, gather field data, and return to the office for design execution.
  • Permitting & Support: Prepare permitting documents for AHJs and provide engineering support through post-construction reviews.
Basic Qualifications
  • Education: B.S. in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Travel Requirements: Valid driver's license and willingness to use a personal vehicle for local site visits (reimbursed at standard IRS rates).
  • Environment: Comfortable working in both office and outdoor field environments.
  • Skills: Strong communication and proficiency in MS Office.
Preferred Skills
  • Exposure to utility design software (Pole Foreman, SpidaCalc, BOUD, SOCKET).
  • Familiarity with CAD / MicroStation or GIS.
  • Knowledge of NESC standards and electric utility design guidelines.
