The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Construction, has full-time vacancies for Civil Engineer I - III positions.
SUMMARY:
CIVIL ENGINEER I
To perform basic engineering duties associated with the construction of civil engineering projects for the Department of Transportation's Construction Bureau.
CIVIL ENGINEER II
Performs engineering duties associated with the construction of civil engineering projects or functions as a Contract Administrator on basic construction projects for the Department of Transportation's Construction Bureau.
CIVIL ENGINEER III
To perform a variety of complex engineering duties associated with the construction of civil engineering projects or functions as a Contract Administrator on moderately complex projects for the Department of Transportation's Construction Bureau.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.
Experience: No experience required.
OR
Education: Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering or civil technology.
Experience: Two (2) years of post-graduate experience in engineering comparable to an Engineering Technician.
License/Certification: Valid driver's license and access to transportation for statewide travel
Other Requirements: Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the Department of Transportation.
Trainee Option: Not applicable

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of experience in engineering at a level equivalent to Civil Engineer I (or higher), plus two (2) additional years' experience in a position comparable to an Engineering Technician.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
CIVIL ENGINEER I
Inspects construction of civil engineering projects to assure the contractor's compliance with the plans and specifications.
Make field measurements of construction work items and perform engineering calculations for analysis and documentation.
Prepares project records to document the quality and quantity of the completed construction.
Checks survey layout performed by contractor.
Recommends to supervisor solutions to conflicting design requirements in the plans or specifications.
Inspects safety devices to ensure the safety of the traveling public, pedestrians, and construction workers.
Maintains good public relations by answering questions from abutters and the general public.
Administers minor resurfacing and highway contracts.
Performs work in full conformance with all risk management, safety, and environmental standards, regulations, and administrative orders.
CIVIL ENGINEER II
Inspects the construction of civil engineering projects to assure the contractor's compliance with the plans and specifications.
Plans, schedules, and coordinates detailed phases of construction projects to ensure a coordinated work effort.
Make field measurements of construction work items and perform engineering calculations for analysis and documentation.
Prepares project records to document the quality and quantity of the completed construction, including required certifications.
Checks Contractors' layout of the work.
Identifies and seeks to resolve conflicting design requirements using good engineering practice and by complex coordination efforts.
Inspects safety devices to ensure the safety of the traveling public, pedestrians, and construction workers.
Supervises the training and technical education of subordinate personnel to enhance their ability to perform assigned duties. May include supervision of Consultant Inspection personnel.
Maintains good public relations by answering questions from abutters and the general public.
Performs work in full conformance with all risk management, safety, and environmental standards, regulations, and administrative orders.
CIVIL ENGINEER III
Supervises the inspection and monitoring of civil engineering construction projects to ensure compliance with Departmental plans, specifications, commitments, and policies.
Plans, schedules and coordinates detailed phases of construction projects to ensure a coordinated work effort.
Supervises the preparation of project records to document the quality and quantity of the completed construction, including required certifications.
Identifies and seeks to resolve conflicting design requirements by the use of good engineering practice and by complex coordination efforts.
Exercises engineering judgment that could affect the safety of the traveling public, pedestrians, and construction workers.
Supervises the training and technical education of subordinate personnel to enhance their ability to perform assigned duties.
Maintains good public relations by answering questions from abutters and the general public.
Prepares and approves the progress payments to the contractor.
Performs work in full conformance with all risk management, safety, and environmental standards, regulations, and administrative orders.
