Job description

Summary: Responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for the Humane Society of SummitCounty's shelter operations, animal care, humane investigations, and community engagementprograms. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) plans,directs, implements, and evaluates organizational operations to ensure high-quality animal care,exceptional client experiences, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and alignment withthe organization's mission, strategic goals, and values. Essential Functions: 1.

Translates strategic vision into actionable goals by aligning staffing structures, operationalprocesses, and measurable outcomes across all assigned departments.2. Establish key metrics to track operations impact, case resolution, community impact, andincorporate them into staff performance management.3. Effectively designs, directs and supervises a large staff structure to ensure responsibilitiesare performed in accordance with organizational mission & policies, state laws, localordinances and national best practices in animal welfare.4

Cultivate regional partnerships with local law enforcement, government officials,municipal and private shelters, and veterinary networks.5. Design systems and structures to optimize intake pathways, accelerate animalrehabilitation, and placement. Design and implement processes to manage populationcapacity metrics dynamically to balance resources with intake volume.6

Align staff, volunteers, and processes to reinforce adoption, enrichment, foster andtransfer flow of all animals in an engaging, positive and empathetic environment.7. Directs staff in developing and implementing volunteer recruitment, retention, training,and deployment strategies to support safety-net services, pet food pantries, andcommunity education programs, including responsible pet ownership, spay/neuterawareness, and bite prevention.8. Ensure compliance with county, state and federal laws regarding animal cruelty, neglect,and public safety through oversight of humane investigation field operations, animalcontrol agreements, and law enforcement teams.9

Represent the organization at public forums, press events, and regional communityadvocacy activity as appropriate.10. Assists the CEO with program development, relationship management, communityawareness and integration, and developing animal control relationships that reflecthumane animal welfare values.11. Other duties as directed by the President/CEO
