What you'll be doing
What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Analyzing - reviewing our existing and new Treaty wordings, including analysis and explanation of individual clauses right through the entire Treaty wordings, always with a focus on delivering a timely and commercial solution to any issues raised.
- Creating & Innovating - working closely with key stakeholders to refine or expand existing wordings and clauses, leading innovation for the AXA XL brand.
- Teamwork - collaborating with colleagues across the Reinsurance Segment, the wider Legal Department and beyond (such as the Claims, Compliance, Accounting/Finance and Underwriting Governance teams) in order to deliver on our team goals, meet KPIs and service delivery requirements and internal projects.
- Training and developing - sharing best practice solutions across the wider business, delivering presentations to underwriting teams, providing pre-bind and post-bind technical wording advice to our underwriting teams.
- Supporting underwriters in achieving underwriting discipline both through contract analysis and offering robust and clear wording solutions and highlighting potential coverage exposure to emerging and systemic risks.
You would report to the Associate General Counsel, Reinsurance Wordings.
What you'll bring
We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to interpret and analyze reinsurance clauses and/or wording requests and to satisfy these by producing and/or critiquing reinsurance clauses and wordings in a clear and robust manner (in English).
- Confidence to deliver your own wording solutions to underwriters, brokers and peers both in writing and face to face.
- Comprehensive understanding of what the business, legal and compliance needs are for individual reinsurance classes.
- In-depth understanding of standard clauses used in the market and class-specific wording structures.
- Ability to plan and self-manage the workload and work under pressure whilst adhering to deadlines and competing priorities.
- Ability to work both as part of a team and work with little or no supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
- Proven experience and record of working in depth with reinsurance wordings.
Desirable:
- Experience in Treaty Reinsurance, especially the Property line of business.
- ACII (Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute) or CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) qualified or working towards qualification.
- ARe (Associate in Reinsurance) qualified or working towards qualification.
- Law Degree (JD or LLB)/ Legally qualified.
- Experience in the use of AI tools & contract analytics technology.
- Foreign language skills.
- Full-time.
- Work on a hybrid schedule based out of the AXA XL office located in Stamford (Connecticut).

The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 110,600 - 165,800.
Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual's skills, experience and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues' pay.
