Position Title: Associate Business Analyst
Location: Hybrid (2โ€“3 days per week) / Onsite (Sprezzatura HQ Arlington, VA)

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking an Associate Business Analyst to support the sustainment, enhancement, and modernization of mission-critical applications supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role is ideal for an early-career Business Analyst who is eager to develop expertise in Agile software delivery, requirements analysis, and enterprise application modernization within a complex federal healthcare environment.

The Associate Business Analyst will work closely with Project Managers, Scrum Masters, developers, testers, architects, and VA stakeholders to elicit, analyze, document, and refine business and functional requirements. The successful candidate will support Agile delivery teams by developing high-quality requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria while learning a complex ecosystem of interconnected applications that support Veteran services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with Project Managers, Scrum Masters, developers, testers, architects, and VA stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business and functional requirements.
  • Participate as an active member of Agile Scrum or SAFe delivery teams, supporting Sprint Planning, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives, and Daily Standups.
  • Conduct requirements elicitation sessions, stakeholder interviews, and product elaboration workshops to understand business needs and technical impacts.
  • Develop Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), Functional Requirements Specifications (FRS), Requirements Specification Documents (RSDs), process flows, and supporting documentation.
  • Create and maintain well-written user stories with clear, complete, and testable acceptance criteria.
  • Support backlog grooming by refining user stories, identifying dependencies, clarifying business rules, and preparing work items for development.
  • Analyze business processes and identify impacts across multiple interconnected applications and systems.
  • Work directly with VA stakeholders to clarify requirements, answer functional questions, and support solution development.
  • Collaborate closely with development and QA teams throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to ensure requirements are accurately implemented and validated.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), requirements traceability, defect triage, and release readiness activities.
  • Maintain requirements, user stories, documentation, and project artifacts within Jira, Confluence, and related Agile tools.
  • Continuously build knowledge of VA business processes, enterprise applications, and modernization initiatives.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 1โ€“3 years of experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Functional Analyst, or similar role
  • Experience working within Agile Scrum or SAFe software development environments
  • Experience developing Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), or similar documentation
  • Experience writing user stories with clear, detailed, and testable acceptance criteria
  • Experience supporting backlog refinement and requirements elaboration activities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to quickly learn complex business processes and interconnected enterprise systems
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working directly with Project Managers and cross-functional Agile delivery teams
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence or similar Agile lifecycle management tools
  • Experience creating process flows, workflow diagrams, UML diagrams, or business process models
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) concepts and Agile delivery methodologies
  • Experience supporting federal government or Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) programs
  • Experience supporting healthcare, benefits, or enterprise business systems


WORKING CONDITIONS


Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday. Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs. . Must have reliable internet service that allows for effective telecommuting.


PAY RANGE


The base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $102,000 annually, depending on geographic work location, relevant experience, skills, education, internal equity, security clearance, and contract requirements. Geographic salary ranges are determined in accordance with the company's compensation practices and represent a good-faith estimate of the compensation for this position at the time of posting.
