BioLegend has an opening for a self-motivated individual with production experience in a fast-moving and dynamic environment to join our purification team!
The Biochemist I will be an integral member of a team that manufactures and provides purified antibodies to enable studies for novel applications in precision medicine, oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and stem cell research.
This position will report to a team leader and will ensure the highest quality of our finalized antibody products. This is a great opportunity to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment for you to enhance your knowledge in the biotechnology industry! In this position you will perform antibody purification via column chromatography both manually and automatically, troubleshoot problematic errors, continue to improve methodologies for efficiency, follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)s, and cross train on a variety of other supporting tasks.
Essential Functions

  • Follow and understand SOPs and batch records, complying with ISO policies and procedures
  • Expected to be proficient in purification of monoclonal, polyclonal, and recombinant antibodies both manually and automatically
  • Perform all essential functions related to antibody purification, including but not limited to the following: procuring appropriate reagents and tools, dilution, endotoxin testing, concentration, and buffer exchange of antibodies
  • Possess both a basic understanding of antibody protein structures and how antibody purification is performed.
  • Perform basic math calculations to calculate the amount of antibodies, concentrations, dilutions, etc.
  • Capable of using lab equipment including but not limited to: AKTA(s), analytical balance, centrifuge, spectrophotometer, nanodrop, UV detector, chart recorder, biosafety cabinet, and pH Meter.
  • Capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously both individually and in a team environment.
  • Assist in troubleshooting discussions.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience
• Associate's degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or other related area, biotech certification, or equivalent
work experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant lab experience with column chromatography, analytical assays, and detection
methods in a manufacturing setting or full-time academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications - Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's of science degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or other related area, biotech certification,
  • or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP databases to execute production orders.
  • Experience working with aseptic technique in biosafety cabinet, basic protein purification, analytical assays such
  • as endotoxin testing, SDS page, IEF, and SEC.
  • Ability to perform column chromatography and the ability to use lab equipment such as AKTA, various sizes of
  • columns, balance, pipette, spectrophotometer, Nanodrop, UV detector, agarose gel electrophoresis,
  • endotoxin (LAL) tests, and pH meter.
  • Ability to meet important deadlines and due dates.
  • Strong multitasking/prioritization skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

The hourly pay for this position will vary by level, as we are open to considering candidates at Levels I or II depending on experience and qualifications. Each level has a corresponding range that reflects the appropriate scope of responsibilities and expectations. The anticipated hourly range for this role is $22.00 -$29.00 per hour. The base pay actually offered to the successful candidate will take into account internal equity, work location, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
Please note that base pay is only one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This range allows for the successful candidate to have an opportunity to progress within the position and develop at our company.
