Overview/ Job Responsibilities

Entarian is seeking an AWS DevOps Engineer to support the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC Atlantic) Expeditionary Enterprise Systems and Services (E2S2) Division. NIWC Atlantic provides design, acquisition, and sustainment services for Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC) Information Technology (IT) systems).

This is a mid-to-senior level engineering position that focuses on the design, optimization, and sustainment of AWS cloud environments for the Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC). The engineer will act as a bridge between technical infrastructure management and federal compliance, ensuring high performance, security, and availability within a fast-paced, government-contracted environment.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure Management: Engineer and maintain optimal performance and availability of customer AWS environments using IaC and automation.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex cloud infrastructure issues and provide support for technical hurdles related to cloud systems.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with IT stakeholders, developers, security analysts, and project managers to align infrastructure with business goals.
  • Leadership & Mentoring: Lead automation initiatives and provide guidance/mentoring to junior engineering staff.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation for architecture decisions, automation processes, and compliance artifacts.

Technical Skills:

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Deep proficiency in CloudFormation or Terraform for repeatable deployments.
  • Cloud Networking: Advanced knowledge of VPC peering, Transit Gateway, Route 53, and VPNs, including hybrid-cloud integration.
  • Automation & Scripting: Skilled in Python, Bash, or PowerShell, alongside tools like Ansible and AWS Systems Manager.
  • CI/CD & DevOps: Experience designing pipelines using AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
  • Observability: Implementation of monitoring and logging via CloudWatch, AWS Config, ELK Stack, Datadog, or Splunk.
  • Containerization: Familiarity with Docker, ECS, EKS, and Kubernetes.

Compliance and Security:

  • Security Standards: Deep understanding of federal regulations including NIST 800-53 and Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • AWS Security Tools: Expertise in IAM policies, encryption, logging, and monitoring.
  • Risk Mitigation: Ability to assess and mitigate risks within cloud environments to ensure strict adherence to government requirements.

This position is remote but visits to customer site (Charleston, SC) will be required. Currently, customer site visits for Program Increment Planning occur four times per year, one week each.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Clearance: Active Secret Security Clearance.
  • Education:
    • Master's or Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., EE, CE, CS, IT, or IS).
    • Undergraduate degrees must be ABET-accredited.
    • Post-secondary education must be institutions that hold regional accreditation (MSCHE, NWCCU, HLC, NECHE, SACSCOC, or WASC WSCUC).
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of professional software/network engineering experience with a Master's degree.
    • 14+ years of professional software/network engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree.
    • Experience must include research, design, and development of computer/network software or specialized utilities (including application database maintenance).
  • Certifications:
    • Current Security+ certification.
    • Agile Developer or Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) certification.
Desired Qualifications
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional)
  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate
  • Management: ITIL or PMP certifications.
  • Orchestration: Experience specifically managing Kubernetes clusters in a production environment.
