Vehicle Acquisition Specialist
Job Summary
The Vehicle Acquisition Specialist is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and acquiring pre-owned vehicles for dealership inventory. This role plays a critical part in maintaining an optimal mix of inventory to meet customer demand, maximize profitability, and align with the dealershipโ€™s sales strategy. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of the used vehicle market, strong negotiation skills, and experience in wholesale, auction, or direct-from-customer purchasing.
Essential Functions
  • Identify, evaluate, and acquire pre-owned vehicles through various channels (auctions, trade-ins, customer purchases, online platforms, lease returns, etc.).
  • Conduct vehicle appraisals and valuations based on market trends, condition, and demand.
  • Negotiate purchase prices to ensure profitability while maintaining competitive inventory.
  • Maintain strong relationships with auction houses, wholesalers, and private sellers.
  • Collaborate with the sales and inventory teams to ensure proper vehicle mix and timely stocking.
  • Monitor and analyze used vehicle market trends to identify high-demand vehicles.
  • Assist with customer vehicle buy-back and trade-in programs.
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance for all vehicle purchases.
  • Work closely with reconditioning and service departments to prepare vehicles for resale.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle purchases, condition reports, and pricing.
  • Meet monthly acquisition and inventory turnover targets.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on acquisition needs.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelorโ€™s degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in vehicle acquisition, appraisal, or used car sales.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive market trends, vehicle values (e.g., Kelley Blue Book, Manheim Market Report), and appraisal tools.
  • Excellent negotiation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Proficient in dealership management systems (DMS), inventory software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license with a clean driving record.
  • Primarily based at the dealership, with occasional travel to auctions or off-site vehicle inspections.
