Job description

Job Responsibilities York Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education System, is a public, two-year institution of higher education that offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Through maximizing student success, the College seeks to contribute to the economic growth and development of York, Lancaster, and Chester counties and of the State. The Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences performs the following functions: Academic Program Planning and Area Administration - Leads short- and long-term planning for the Arts and Sciences area and assigned departments by establishing academic program outcomes, operational priorities, procedures, timelines, and performance criteria.

Monitors progress toward established goals, identifies needed adjustments, and coordinates implementation of departmental, divisional, and institutional initiatives. Supervises full-time and adjunct faculty and staff, provides ongoing guidance, promotes professional development, and completes required performance-management processes. Curriculum and Instructional Leadership - Provides College-wide curriculum leadership in assigned disciplines.

Promotes quality instruction through traditional and alternative delivery methods, off-campus learning experiences, and the effective use of instructional technology. Coordinates faculty, course, and facility scheduling and performs teaching or other instructional duties as needed. Student Advocacy and Academic Support - Serves as an escalation point for complex student concerns involving instruction, academic progress, faculty interactions, and departmental practices.

Meets with students, reviews relevant information, interprets applicable policies and procedures, and coordinates with faculty and College offices to support equitable and timely outcomes. Identifies recurring concerns and recommends improvements that support student achievement, retention, and completion. Institutional Initiatives and Academic Governance - Leads and contributes to assigned College-wide initiatives, committees, and academic governance activities.

Chairs the General Education Committee and BCAS Placement Team, coordinates committee priorities and activities, and ensures timely follow-through on decisions and action items. Provides academic and operational guidance to off-campus centers, the QEP/Supplemental Instruction Team, Placement Committee, BCAS Leadership Team, and other groups as assigned. Evaluates administrative systems affecting assigned areas and recommends improvements to strengthen academic operations and service delivery.

Fiscal and Resource Management - Participates in the development and monitoring of budgets for assigned areas and provides guidance to ensure appropriate expenditures. Oversees the maintenance, security, and appropriate use of facilities, supplies, and equipment within assigned areas. Minimum and Additional Requirements Master's degree in a discipline taught within the Arts and Sciences area or a master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in a discipline taught within the Arts and Sciences area.

Disciplines taught include humanities, mathematics, sciences, English and foreign languages, and fine arts. At least three years of experience in a related field; teaching experience or training in a related field. Demonstrated leadership ability emphasizing teaching, learning, and achieving student goals.
