Job description

Job Summary

The Cardiac Sonographer performs quality cardiac imaging on inpatient and outpatient adults for diagnostic interpretation. Assists Fellows and Faculty Cardiologist in performing varied echocardiographic procedures. Evaluates echocardiograms for technical quality and provides a summary report to physicians. Maintains a safe environment and functional equipment to promote safe patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs cardiac ultrasound imaging in a timely manner with minimal or no supervision in accordance with departmental established policies.

  • Recognizes emergency situations and responds immediately with notification to the appropriate personnel.

  • Attends all scheduled in-services and staff meetings.

  • Is aware and responsive to the needs of the patients and family members at all times.

  • Provides technical measurements and summary report at the end of each procedure.

  • Processes each imaging study via information system requirements.

  • Maintains accurate records of all ultrasound studies performed.

  • Assists Cardiologist and other physicians in the performance of cardiac ultrasound exams as required.

  • Cleans and inspects equipment, including transducers and TD-100 equipment after usage.

  • Reports equipment problems to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.

  • Keeps work area neat, clean, and stocked with supplies.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathology as it relates to echocardiography.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the performance of M-mode, two-dimensional and Doppler (pulsed wave, continuous wave, and color flow) echocardiographic diagnostic procedures.

  • Must be familiar with stress, transesophageal, intraoperative, contrast echocardiography and echo guided procedures.


Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or GED

  • Associates in Applied Science preferred

  • With Associate's Degree no experience required after registry. or Without Associate Degree two (2) years experience as a cardiac sonographer after registry.
