Job description


Description:
The EH&S Specialist supports safety and environmental compliance for multiple Kentucky warehouses and distribution sites by implementing EHS programs and ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, including Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health (KOSH) requirements. The role collaborates with site leadership and the corporate EHS team to conduct inspections, identify hazards, support incident investigations, coordinate training, and maintain accurate safety and environmental records. Additionally, the specialist assists with regulatory reporting and helps prepare sites for audits and inspections.
Essential Functions:
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of EHS programs and site-level procedures to promote a safe work environment, including identifying training needs and coordinating general industry safety training. Assist EHS leadership with safety initiatives, projects, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Support the development and maintenance of emergency response and contingency plans, including fire prevention and spill response procedures. Assist with workplace incident, near-miss, and injury investigations, including documentation of findings and contributing factors, and support communication of corrective actions under the direction of EHS leadership.
  • Conduct and coordinate routine safety and environmental inspections at assigned warehouse locations using established checklists and procedures. Document inspection results and support sites in developing, tracking, and closing corrective action plans.
  • Support EHS reporting processes by assisting with timely collection, documentation, and tracking of EHS incidents, inspection findings, corrective actions, and performance metrics. Assist in preparing information used for internal, corporate, and regulatory reporting and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready EHS records in compliance with regulatory and company requirements, including training, inspections, incidents, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), while supporting proper record retention practices.
  • Coordinate with site operations, supervisors, and the EHS team to support day-to-day safety compliance activities across the supported locations.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Associate Degree Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Technology, Applied Science, or related field. - Required
  • Bachelors Degree (BA/BS) Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Technology, Applied Science, or related field. - Preferred

Experience:
  • 1 year or more in Professional experience supporting Environmental Health & Safety programs in a warehouse, distribution, manufacturing, or general industry environment. Experience supporting Environmental Health & Safety programs within warehouse, distribution, manufacturing, or general industry operations.

Specialized Knowledge:
  • Understanding of OSHA/Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health (KOSH) General Industry standards
  • General knowledge of warehouse safety principles including, Powered industrial truck (forklift) safety, Material handling and storage & Hazard communication and SDS management
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance concepts such as Hazardous waste and universal waste management.
  • Ability to learn and apply federal, state, and local EHS regulations with guidance.
  • Ability to conduct workplace safety and environmental inspections using checklists or established procedures
  • Ability to accurately document findings, incidents, and corrective actions
  • Strong attention to detail when maintaining EHS records, training documentation, and compliance logs
  • Ability to support internal reporting and data tracking for EHS metrics
  • Ability to interact professionally with employees, supervisors, and management at all levels
  • Comfortable delivering or supporting safety training and toolbox talks
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across multiple locations
  • Ability to collect, organize, and validate data used for safety and environmental reporting, such as Injury and Illness documentation and ability to support regulatory reporting activities.
  • Understanding of internal and external reporting timelines and the importance of accurate, timely submissions
  • Ability to maintain organized, audit-ready records to support regulatory inspections and corporate reporting
  • Familiarity with OSHA recordkeeping (29 CFR 1904), experience with EHS management systems such as Intelex or Cority, or knowledge of EPA regulations applicable to warehousing/distribution.
