An Associate Applications Developer is an entry-level professional who assists in designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software applications. They typically work under the supervision of senior developers, contributing to the development of web, desktop, or mobile applications. Their responsibilities often include debugging code, writing documentation, and collaborating with team members to deliver functional software solutions. This role is ideal for recent graduates or those with limited experience looking to build foundational skills in software development.

What are some common challenges associate applications developers face when transitioning from academic projects to real-world software development?

One common challenge for Associate Applications Developers is adapting to collaborative, large-scale codebases where multiple developers contribute, requiring strong version control and communication skills. Unlike academic projects, real-world development often involves adhering to established coding standards, thorough documentation, and regular code reviews. Additionally, learning how to balance new feature development with bug fixes and maintenance tasks is essential. Embracing agile methodologies and collaborating closely with senior developers, testers, and product managers helps smooth this transition.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate applications developer?

To thrive as an Associate Applications Developer, you need a solid understanding of programming languages (such as Java, Python, or C#), software development principles, and a relevant degree in computer science or similar fields. This role also provides leadership to a small team and works cross-functionally with Technology, HR, Finance, Operations, and external vendors to drive meaningful improvements that enhance efficiency and the associate experience.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
We are dedicated to the well-being of our associates and are proud to be consistently recognized as a Best Place to Work. Our compensation and benefits package not only supports our associates and their families but benefits local communities and communities around the world.
  • Industry-leading performance-based bonus program
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Traditional and Roth 401k
  • Tuition reimbursement for associates
  • Scholarship for associates' children up to $28,000 per child
  • 1-month paid sabbatical after every five years of employment, plus $5,000 for travel
  • 1-week paid volunteer leave each year
  • 100% charitable match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
  • 100% paid 12-week maternity leave

At ARCO, our first core value is to treat people fairly and do the right thing. We are committed to building and sustaining a culture that supports diversity and inclusion. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment.
From recruiting, training, and hiring practices to selecting our subcontractors, we understand that diversity of all those involved in the construction process enhances our ability to deliver the best solutions to our customers. We hire the best and the brightest from across the country - constructing a team of experts in architecture, design, engineering, project management, and business services.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
  • Own the product vision, roadmap, and lifecycle for enterprise platforms, including ServiceNow, Construction Engineering Products, and other internal applications.
  • Define product goals, success metrics, and KPIs aligned to business priorities.
  • Partner with business stakeholders and executive sponsors to gather, prioritize, and balance near-term needs with long-term platform strategy.
  • Maintain and prioritize a product backlog; partner with Technology teams and vendors to deliver enhancements on time and within scope.
  • Establish governance, intake processes, and standards to ensure scalability, security, and consistency across platforms.
  • Monitor platform performance, usability, and adoption, driving continuous improvement and user-centric design.
  • Support change management efforts, including communication, training, upgrades, and adoption strategies.
  • Lead and manage a small team by setting direction, priorities, and development goals, with a hands-on leadership style that includes active participation in day-to-day work to support delivery of the product roadmap.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in product management, platform ownership, or enterprise systems management.
  • Experience owning or supporting enterprise platforms that are not directly related to specific silos, such as ServiceNow, Adobe, Bluebeam, and others.
  • Strong ability to translate business needs into product requirements and prioritized roadmaps.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with Agile or hybrid delivery methodologies.
  • Experience working with third-party vendors and system integrators.
  • Product Management certification (CSPO, SAFe POPM, Pragmatic, etc.) a plus.

MAKE YOUR MOVE
We are proud to be one of the fastest-growing, privately-owned companies in America, celebrating over 30 years of experience as design-build experts. We have completed over 6,550 design-build projects nationwide. We ranked #6 on ENR's Design-Build Firms list and #29 on ENR's Top 400 Contractors list of 2025. Most importantly, our clients like us, trust us and want to do business with us. We are looking for people with the same enthusiasm, passion, and respect for the hard work that brought us to where we are today. Are you a person that can make a difference at ARCO? If the answer is, "Yes!" we look forward to meeting you.
