Lead Application Engineer - DevOps

Job Summary

The Lead Application Engineer designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs advanced software systems and application programs for the organization. Major responsibilities and duties include:

Lead functional projects that improve our systems and processes to make sure they function effectively. Provide training and guidance to application engineers. Evaluate, research, and recommend software application upgrades, patches, and new functionalities. Assist management in the design and implementation of new applications, including consulting with functional architects on application design. Work with stakeholders to perform application functionality gap analyses and feasibility studies for application enhancements. Develop and document complex and in-depth technical design specifications to meet business needs identified through application requirements, user stories, support tickets, and test defects. Delegate tasks to application engineers and provide training and guidance on the design and development of software enhancements. Lead the development of test plans and scripts for functional, performance, regression, and user acceptance testing. Analyze applications for compliance with security protocols and audit controls. Review and resolve escalated incident management activities.

Minimum Requirements

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field, and 6 years of work experience in application engineering or a similar role. Stated experience must include work with software architecture utilizing agile methodologies for eCommerce platforms (B2B or B2C), DevOps, and with Site Reliability Engineering with Enterprise IT ecosystems. Candidates should have at least 2 years of experience with Java applications, application performance monitoring, incident management, on-call rotation and continuous integration, IT infrastructure management, continuous deployment and with administering containerization technologies. Applicants should also have one year of experience in a lead or mentorship role with DevOps teams creating, deploying and overseeing CI/CD pipeline architecture.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 8+ years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 5+ years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.
