Job description

Job title: Civil Associate

Job Location: Santa Ana, CA 92707. Employer will allow a hybrid work schedule.

Salary: $110,000 - $126,317

Job duties: Assists with design, construction documents, plan production, maps, basic reports and other supporting documentation. Assists with preparing and updating engineering calculations to be used in design reports and final design. Prepare reports detailing conceptual designs or analysis performed, along with results. Assists with the preparation of drawings such as those needed for highways, structures, and water/wastewater projects. Demonstrates intermediate skills using various CAD and Microsoft Office programs to produce high quality design documents, exhibits, computations and reports. Reviews shop drawings for conformance with contract plans. Assists or leads in the design of elements of engineering plans or concepts. Assists with quantities and project cost estimates. Communicate with Engineers and/or Project Managers regarding project issues. Coordinates with design technicians to ensure timely and accurate deliverables. Attend internal and external project meetings and participate as necessary. Assists with document preparation for regulatory agencies to obtain required permits. Assists with preparation for client and project meetings. Reporting to Engineers and/or Project Managers. May provide basic guidance and informal training for less experienced personnel.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. plus 2 years of experience in civil engineering design or related. Requires skills and experience to involve:

  • Engineering calculations and quantitative analysis for design and reporting using Excel, MathCAD, or similar computational tools.
  • Technical report preparation documenting design concepts and analysis results using Microsoft Word and PDF documentation tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for computations, documentation, and reporting.
  • Knowledge and application of bridge engineering standards and regulations, including Caltrans Bridge Design Practice (BDP), Seismic Design Criteria (SDC), AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, FHWA requirements, and California Building Code.
  • Ability to produce design documents and reports that meet strict client and regulatory standards using industry-standard engineering software and documentation tools.
  • Application of engineering principles using structural analysis and modeling software (e.g., SAP2000, CSI Bridge, or similar) to support accurate, consistent, and high-quality project deliverables.
