Job description

Insurance Agent - Wisconsin

Stop Climbing Someone Else's Ladder.

Build Something Meaningful.

You've spent years developing skills that most employers undervalue: the ability to build trust quickly, lead under pressure, stay disciplined when things get hard, and show up for the people counting on you.

Rural Mutual Insurance is looking for people throughout Wisconsin who are ready to put those skills to work in a business they can grow and be proud of.

Who We're Looking For

Insurance experience is not required, but credibility, discipline, and community trust are. Some of our most successful agents come from careers where relationships and trust are everything.

We're actively recruiting people with backgrounds in:

  • Current Insurance Professionals
  • Military service, law enforcement, fire, and first response
  • Teaching, coaching, and school administration
  • Community banking, mortgage lending, and agricultural finance
  • Small business ownership, contracting, and farm operations
  • Hospitality, retail management, and customer service leadership
  • B2B sales, equipment sales, and farm supply
  • Early career professionals in business, agriculture, finance, or communications

If you have spent your career building relationships, leading teams, serving your community, or running a business, you already have the foundation. We will teach you everything else.

The Opportunity

As a Financed Agent with Rural Mutual Insurance, you will build and grow a book of business across Wisconsin. This is not a traditional sales job with a quota and a manager looking over your shoulder. It is an opportunity with structure, support, and a clear path to long-term growth.

What building your career looks like:

  • Develop relationships with individuals, families, farmers, and business owners
  • Identify customer risks and match them with the right insurance solutions
  • Build referral networks with local professionals, lenders, and community leaders
  • Participate in community organizations and local events
  • Create and execute a business plan with support from your manager
  • Grow a book of business that generates long-term, recurring revenue

Compensation and Growth

Financed Agents receive a base salary along with commissions and bonuses. Most new agents start around $48,000 in salary, with additional earnings from commissions and bonuses. First-year average earnings typically fall in the $75,000 to $85,000 range, with upside on income potential. As Financed Agents transition into Career Agent roles, income continues to grow through new business production and retention.

The financing model exists for a reason: it gives you the runway to build relationships the right way, without the pressure of needing to close a sale in week one. Your income grows as your business grows.

Agents who commit to the process and invest in their community see significant income growth in years two and three as referrals build, renewals compound, and their reputation takes hold.

Why Rural Mutual

Rural Mutual has served Wisconsin exclusively for more than 90 years. That singular focus is not a limitation. It is a competitive advantage.

It means:

  • Local underwriting decisions made by people who know Wisconsin
  • Deep credibility with the farming, small business, and rural communities you will serve
  • A trusted brand that opens doors in communities where reputation is everything
  • Commercial and farm product depth that creates real opportunity beyond personal lines

What we provide to set you up for success:

  • Comprehensive licensing support and pre-licensing training
  • Structured onboarding and a clearly defined ramp period
  • One-on-one coaching from an experienced manager
  • Marketing resources, tools, and ongoing development programs
  • Access to underwriting professionals who work alongside you
  • A community of agents across Wisconsin invested in each other's success

What It Takes to Succeed Here

This is not the right opportunity for everyone. It rewards a specific kind of person.

You will thrive if you are:

  • Driven by relationships, not transactions
  • Comfortable with accountability and honest about your performance
  • Active in your community or eager to become a recognized part of it
  • Resilient enough to keep going when the first month is harder than you expected
  • Forward-thinking enough to treat this like the business it is, not a job
  • Coachable enough to follow a proven system while it is still new to you

This is not the right fit if you are looking for a predictable routine, a capped salary, or a role where showing up is enough. The ceiling here is high, but so is the standard.

Ready to Build Something Meaningful?

If you have read this far and something feels familiar, that recognition is worth paying attention to.

We are building a team of agents across Wisconsin who are serious about serving their communities and building businesses they are proud of. If that is you, we want to talk.

Rural Mutual Insurance Company | Together We Keep Wisconsin Strong

Rural Mutual Insurance is an equal opportunity employer.

Compensation:

$50,000 - $85,000+ yearly - base - commissions - bonuses

Responsibilities:
  • Network with local businesses and homeowners to develop relationships and deliver the protection of Rural Mutual's product line
  • Partner with clients and underwriters through the entire process of purchasing their insurance policy
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all people
  • Stay abreast of insurance industry protocols and policy changes to ensure fulfillment of all policy requirements, and monitor insurance claims to ensure mutual satisfaction
  • Keep sales databases, customer records, and related organizational tools current to accurately report progress of marketing and sales efforts

Qualifications:
  • Excellent skills in communication: listening and presenting
  • Goal-oriented with a passion for achieving financial success

  • High level of integrity with a track record of showing consistency between words and action
