Job description

Manager, Credit Accounting

Capital One is seeking a highly motivated professional to join the Controllers Accounting Department as a Manager supporting the Credit Accounting function. This role leads our internal and external reporting and analysis of the Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL). This role will work closely with our finance, risk management, line of business accounting, and external reporting partners to 'tell the story' of the ACL each quarter and deliver key disclosures and analytics. Primary responsibilities include managing accounting, reporting and analytical activities related to the ACL results.

As an Accounting Manager, you will leverage your Accounting and Financial Analysis expertise and apply your strategic and analytical skills to address major Controllers challenges. You will do it all in a collaborative environment that values your insights, encourages you to take on new responsibilities, promotes continuous learning, and rewards innovation. We proactively communicate with our partners and leadership, and help shape priorities by analyzing data, gathering metrics, identifying pain points and rationalizing business processes.

Detailed activities and responsibilities include:

  • Manage the ACL disclosure processes to ensure consistent and accurate internal management and external SEC and Regulatory reporting,

  • Oversee impactful ACL backtesting activities that provide transparency on performance vs. expectations, which are a critical input to quarterly ACL governance activities with Senior Leadership

  • Serve as a subject matter expert over the ACL and related metrics,

  • Communicate ACL results to stakeholders on a quarterly basis,

  • Set the reporting team agenda and lead projects, driving and influencing decisions on strategic imperatives or special topics,

  • Manage your area of the team to elevate associate performance, create a positive environment and build and maintain a high performing team

  • Build and leverage relationships with business partners, including risk management and finance, to understand their processes and results,

  • Create dynamic ACL analytics and present analysis clearly and concisely for executive leadership,

  • Review quarterly journal entries and monthly account reconciliations,

  • Leverage new and existing technologies to enhance reporting and analytics,

  • Support ACL compliance activities for management, internal audit and external audit groups by providing documentation and addressing queries

General responsibilities:

  • Create connections across the team and organization to drive collaboration

  • Leverage sound business judgment to evaluate analytical results and formulate recommendations

  • Share expertise and insights with business partners

  • Collaborate with the team to prioritize projects and support large scale Controllers initiatives

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors' degree or military experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in accounting, external financial reporting, audit, or finance, or a combination

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license

  • 2 years of experience in banking, financial services, or a combination

  • 1 year of people management experience

  • Strong track record of building relationships within accounting groups and other areas of an organization

  • Experience with Accounting Systems such as Peoplesoft, SAP or Oracle Financials

  • Experience with Reporting systems such as Onestream, Tableau, Google Data Studio

  • Ability to reach well-reasoned conclusions on financial reporting and disclosure issues

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills

  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • Ability to coordinate work across a team and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Manager, Accounting


Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700 for Manager, Accounting

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
