Job description

As you continue to pursue your higher education to become a nurse or wait for your nursing license, working as a Nurse Tech is an opportunity to learn and get a head start on your nursing career. Under the direct supervision of registered nurses, you'll interact with patients, other members of the health care team, and physicians and your ability to take direction and work quickly and efficiently in high-pressure situations is essential.

Your Everyday
Embrace teamwork and direction in performance of duties.
Maintain a neat and organized environment promoting efficient patient care, parent/patient satisfaction, and overall safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
Demonstrate appropriate use of standard precautions when delivering patient care or techniques for patients requiring isolation.
Lift, move or transfer patients utilizing proper body mechanics to prevent self-injury or injury to others and assist nursing staff with patient transport, repositioning, and transfer of patients.
Maintain and advocate a safe environment for everyone.
Provide oversight for patients in holding area.
Clean patient bays/areas after each patient use including emptying linen hampers as needed, sanitizing equipment and workstations, reporting broken equipment to the Charge Nurse/Nurse and plant operations.
Answer telephone and relay messages, verify room assignments, communicate with patient liaison to provide updates and request visitors as directed by the RN.
Transport specimens to laboratory.
Receive and stock supplies, equipment, linens, and validate accuracy of delivered supplies using purchase order.
Participate as a dependable team member, assisting when requested and volunteering when the need is obvious.
Attend all applicable unit in-services and continuing educational programs.
The Must-Haves
Minimum:
Enrollment in an accredited Professional School of Nursing or graduate of an accredited Professional School of Nursing waiting to NCLEX for Licensure.
Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
Successful completion of 2 clinical semesters in an RN program accredited by the State of Louisiana.
