Classification:        Non-Exempt

Reports To:        Culinary Manager

Job Summary:   

Under the direction of the Culinary Manager, responsible for preparing, seasoning, and cooking soups, meats, vegetables and desserts, as well as any other foods as requested.  This hybrid role is responsible for preparing meals as well as assisting in serving meals to residents in a courteous and respectful manner. 

Responsibilities

•    Responsible for all aspects of meal preparation, clean-up, and general upkeep of the kitchen and dining room.
•    Preparation of regular foods according to prescribed menus.
•    Follows set guidelines on proper cooking time and temperatures. 
•    Documents proper cooking time and temperature.
•    Cleans and sanitizes all food preparation equipment and ensures that it is kept in safe and operable condition.
•    Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
•    Adheres to weekly menus.
•    Responsible for completing delegated tasks by supervisor.
•    Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory of all kitchen supplies.
•    Responsible for providing three meals per day to tenants.
•    Responsible to adhere to all policies and procedures.    
•    Must be able to read and comprehend instructions, procedures, and memos.
•    Must be mature and remain calm with tenants/employees/ family members and visitors.
•    Consistent and regular attendance.

Physical Demands:

•    May be required to work days, afternoons, nights, weekends and/or holidays.  
•    While performing duties of this job, employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. 
•    Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or heat, and taste or smell.
•    Specific vision abilities include close vision distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications:

•    To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 
•    Must demonstrate the ability to work under the direction of the Culinary Manager or Administrator.
•     Must maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
•    Must work as a team member and maintain a positive demeanor.
•    Must possess good listening, verbal and written communication skills.

Requirements:

•    Must have high school diploma.
•    Must understand the vulnerable adults act. 
•    Must complete and pass criminal background check.
•    Must be able to prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently.
•    Must have or the ability to complete within 60 days of hire a Serv Safe Certificate.
•    Must be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
•    Must be compassionate and work with tact and ethical awareness.
•    Must work as a team member with other personnel and management.
•    Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
•    Must be able to recognize and respond to common kitchen hazards, including but not limited to slips, trips, cuts, burns and cross-contamination risks, in accordance with safety and sanitation standards.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment consists of the entire home (inside and out), including the resident's rooms. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

•    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to minimal, however, there may be brief periods of elevated noise with     buzzers used to alert staff.
•    There is potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases.
•    There is exposure to cleaning chemicals.
