An Assisted Living Driver is a professional responsible for safely transporting residents of assisted living facilities to various destinations, such as medical appointments, social outings, and shopping trips. They operate facility vehicles, assist residents with entering and exiting the vehicle, and ensure passenger safety throughout the journey. Additionally, Assisted Living Drivers often help residents with mobility challenges and maintain a friendly, supportive environment during transportation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an assisted living driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assisted Living Driver, you need a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and knowledge of safe vehicle operation, often supported by CPR/First Aid certification. Familiarity with wheelchair lifts, GPS navigation systems, and scheduling or dispatch software is typically required. Assisted Living Drivers often encounter challenges such as accommodating residents with varying mobility needs, maintaining punctual schedules despite unexpected delays, and ensuring safety during transport. Effective communication with healthcare staff and residents, patience, and adaptability are key to managing these situations. Who Are We?

Larksfield Place Retirement Communities is more than just a premier senior living community—it’s a movement among our employees who take pride in creating an environment of exceptional care, service, and engagement. Locally managed in Wichita, we are a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community with a national reputation for excellence.

We live by our "Elevate Every Day" mantra, striving to enhance the lives of our residents, team members, and community through compassion, excellence, and genuine hospitality.

Who Are You?

You are an experienced, self-directed maintenance professional who is comfortable taking ownership of an assigned building and working with minimal day-to-day supervision.

As the primary Maintenance Technician supporting our Assisted Living community, you will often be working independently. You can assess a maintenance issue, determine the appropriate course of action, prioritize competing needs, and complete quality work without needing constant direction.

You're equally comfortable completing a remodel, troubleshooting a work order, addressing a Life Safety Code requirement, or interacting directly with a resident. You understand that in senior living, maintenance isn't just about fixing things—it's about maintaining a safe, reliable, and welcoming home for the people who live here.

A Day in the Life
  • Serve as the primary Maintenance Technician for our Assisted Living community, independently managing day-to-day maintenance needs
  • Complete apartment remodels and renovations, including drywall, painting, carpentry, fixture replacement, flooring-related work, and other general improvements
  • Respond to and complete general resident and departmental maintenance work orders
  • Perform repairs involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, doors, locks, fixtures, and other building systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance and identify potential issues before they become larger repairs
  • Complete assigned Life Safety Code-related inspections, maintenance, repairs, and corrective work to help maintain a safe and compliant environment
  • Assist with apartment turnovers and prepare residences for new resident move-ins
  • Troubleshoot maintenance issues and determine appropriate repair solutions with limited supervision
  • Prioritize work based on safety, urgency, resident impact, and operational needs
  • Maintain accurate documentation of completed work, inspections, and preventive maintenance activities
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors when specialized service is required
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and properly care for tools and equipment
  • Participate in the department's on-call rotation for after-hours maintenance emergencies
  • Collaborate with the broader Facilities team and assist with campus projects when needed

What We're Looking For
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid Kansas driver's license required
  • Minimum three (3) years of general building maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, remodeling, or related trade experience preferred
  • Broad working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, drywall, painting, and general building repairs
  • Experience with remodeling, renovation, and finish work strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with Life Safety Code requirements, inspections, or healthcare/senior living facility maintenance preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment
  • Ability to independently assess, prioritize, and complete assigned work
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing work correctly and safely
  • Professional communication and customer service skills when interacting with residents and staff
  • Self-motivated and dependable, with the ability to work independently for much of the workday

At Larksfield Place, our maintenance professionals play an essential role in both the safety of our buildings and the quality of life of our residents. As our Maintenance Technician II in Assisted Living, you'll have the autonomy to take ownership of your assigned community while having the resources and support of our larger Facilities team behind you.

If you're an experienced maintenance professional who doesn't need someone looking over your shoulder to get the job done, we want to hear from you.

Apply today and help us Elevate Every Day at Larksfield Place.
