The School of Media, Arts and Communication (MAC) seeks an exceptional educator for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Advertising and Public Relations. Reporting to the school director, the Visiting Assistant Professor designs and facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction within an academic discipline to ensure quality delivery of instruction and integration of content within an academic work unit.

Responsibilities include providing for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online, and/or laboratory settings, including grading. The successful candidate will serve as an instructor of record, teaching undergraduate courses in advertising and public Relations, with emphases on public relations writing, strategy, media relations, and community relations, advertising media planning, strategic integrated marketing communication (IMC), and social media and digital content creation. They will serve as a flexible instructional resource for the college, potentially supporting other areas as needed, such as Journalism, Media Studies, Advertising, or Communication Studies. The position will participate in school meetings and contribute to curriculum discussions as appropriate. Service activities may include advising student organizations, serving discipline level committees, and other duties as assigned.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Facilitate classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance

Contribute to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit

Contribute to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations

Advise students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study

Collaborate with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline

Develop and design curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction

Guide student employees engaging in hands-on, applied project work experiences

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher in Public Relations, Advertising, Media Studies, Communication, or a closely related field.

  • At least one year of professional experience in public relations, advertising, or multimedia content creation.

  • Evidence of effective teaching or strong potential for excellence in teaching

  • Experience applying industry tools to deliver measurable results, including creating branded content in applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, experience analyzing social media metrics to improve engagement, and using CMS platforms to manage weekly content updates.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD (or related terminal degree) in Public Relations, Advertising, Media Studies, Communication, or a closely related field.

  • Extensive applied industry experience in Advertising and Public Relations related projects or related professional practice

  • Experience leading or contributing to real-world projects in agencies, startup, nonprofit, or corporate environments

  • Accreditation in Public Relations (APR)

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary academic environment.

  • College-level teaching experience in Advertising and Public Relations related subjects.

  • Commitment to experiential teaching practices and student-centered learning.

  • Willingness to adapt to evolving curricular needs across MAC.
