Job description

The Wire Specialist is responsible for processing, verifying, and monitoring domestic and international wire transfer transactions in accordance with established bank policies, regulatory requirements, security procedures, and service standards. The incumbent ensures accurate and timely processing of wire requests while mitigating fraud risk, maintaining operational controls, and providing exceptional customer service

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process incoming and outgoing domestic and international wire transfers accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Verify wire instructions and supporting documentation prior to processing.
  • Review wire requests for completeness, authorization, and compliance with bank procedures.
  • Monitor wire queues and ensure timely completion of transactions.
  • Process wire amendments, cancellations, returns, and recalls as needed.
  • Maintain records and documentation related to wire transfer activity.
  • Perform required security procedures and callback verifications.
  • Identify and escalate suspicious or potentially fraudulent transactions.
  • Review transactions for compliance with internal controls, OFAC requirements, and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) regulations.
  • Ensure dual-control procedures are followed when required.
  • Respond to customer and internal employee inquiries regarding wire transfers and transaction status.
  • Assist clients with wire transfer requirements, deadlines, fees, and documentation.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, relationship managers, branch personnel, and external financial institutions.
  • Balance daily wire activity and reconcile wire reports.
  • Research and resolve wire discrepancies and exceptions.
  • Prepare operational reports and maintain appropriate logs.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing requested documentation. Performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications:   

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's degree or coursework in banking, finance, accounting, or related field preferred.
  •  Minimum of 2 years of banking operations experience preferred.
  • Prior wire processing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with domestic and international wire systems, including Fedwire, preferred.
  • Experience working in a regulated financial institution environment.
  • Knowledge of wire transfer regulations and operational procedures.
  • Understanding of BSA/AML, OFAC, and fraud prevention requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and banking software systems.
