The University of Colorado Department of Anesthesiology, Divisionof Pediatric Anesthesiology, has an opening for a full-timepediatric cardiac team attending at the faculty rank of AssistantProfessor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The chiefresponsibility of the department is to assure the best possibleoutcomes for our patients having surgical operations, painfulinvasive and diagnostic procedures. The University of Coloradoaffiliated hospitals have top nationally-recognized physiciansdelivering the best possible anesthetic care as well as a fullrange of perioperative care.

The primary clinical site for this position is Children's HospitalColorado (CHCO). This premier hospital, which has been ranked amongtop five in the country for almost two decades, is a 553-bedtertiary care children's hospital located on the Anschutz MedicalCampus in Aurora, Colorado. CHCO has a level IV NICU and is theonly level 1 pediatric trauma center in Colorado. With 4 hospitals,16 network of care locations and more than 500 outreach clinics inover 29 cities, the CHCO network serves the children of Coloradoand surrounding regions. In service of CHCO, the Section is made upof a multidisciplinary team of highly trained pediatric anesthesiaexperts that carries out more than 27,000 anesthesia procedures peryear, specializing in the unique needs of children undergoingsurgical, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

The attending pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist administers carealone or supervises physicians-in-training (residents), certifiedregistered nurse anesthetists, and certified anesthesiologistassistants. When working alone, he/she examines the patient beforeand after anesthesia, writes pre and post anesthesia orders,confirms that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction,manages the anesthetic period, and follows patient as long as isappropriate in the post anesthesia period.

As an attending pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist, the positionmay be required to perform these services in the operating room, inthe labor and delivery area, in radiology, and in the outpatientprocedure center. Participation in the cardiac anesthesia call teamis expected, and includes weekday, weekend and holiday callcoverage.

As a faculty member of the School of Medicine, the position isexpected to contribute to the teaching needs of the Department andthe School. This may include, but is not limited to, preparing anddelivering lectures, serving as a preceptor, and providingone-on-one instruction. Attending anesthesiologists, as facultymembers, are also expected to contribute to the advancementofknowledge in the specialty by way of clinical or laboratoryresearch.

The position is full-time, at-will, and will be assigned clinicalduties at the Children's Hospital Colorado. The candidate must havea strong working and theoretical knowledge of Anesthesiology andPeri-operative Medicine as well as experience in teachingAnesthesiology. To be considered for appointment at the rank ofAssistant Professor the candidate will have completed ACGMEfellowship training in clinical pediatric anesthesiology, andfurther fellowship training in pediatric cardiacanesthesiology.
