Job description

Summary/Objective

The Retrofit Installer Technician performs general labor duties on weatherization projects by
transferring from one task to another where demands require workers with varied experiences and
abilities to perform specific repair and energy conservation tasks in an occupied residential setting.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with impairments to perform the
essential functions.
Installs insulation, underpinning, replaces and repairs glass, roofing, doors, windows and
performs other weatherization and energy conservation activities as required.
Attends all training, lectures and classes on weatherization, energy conservation techniques, tool
   and equipment use and maintenance and safety measures as required by Crew Leaders, or other
   supervisors.
Uses hand and power tools in a proficient manner specific to weatherization activities.
Prepares and submits any reports, timesheets and invoices in a timely manner.
Maintains a clean, neat and safe work area at all times.
Clear, clean and remove all tools, equipment, materials and debris from each job site upon
    completion.
Observes and reports any known problems with the job site, equipment, vehicle or tool safety.
Load, unload, secure and maintain all tools, equipment and materials in agency vehicles,
   warehouse or at the job site.
Assist the Crew Leader in maintaining an inventory of all tools, equipment and materials.
Assist the Crew Leader in assuring proper maintenance and repair of all agency owned tools,
  equipment and vehicles used in weatherization activities.
Perform various energy conservation and repair tasks in confined spaces, under floors and in
    attics and at heights of over 6 feet on roofs and from ladders and scaffolds.
Erect and use scaffolds.
Use personal protective safety equipment.
Provide support to Crew Leader as required.
Drive van or box truck loaded with tools, equipment and supplies.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

Both indoor and outdoor work environments are required. Exposure to heat, dampness, dust, fumes,
airborne particles and noise may be part of the job.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, substantial physical effort is required. Regular requirements to
use hands to finger, handle, feel and reach. Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
Regular requirements to stand, walk, sit, and carry heavy objects occasionally weighing over 100 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time position. Typical hours will be Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However, in
order to meet the needs of the agency, permanent and/or temporary changes and/or modifications to
schedule and/or work hours may occur as dictated by management.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be
expected.

Required Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED
KHC RIT Training (can be obtained after hire)

Preferred Education and Experience

A background/ experience in carpentry or construction is considered a plus.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

A valid KY Driver’s License as well as a clean driving record and criminal background check is required.
Gateway Community Action is a drug free workplace and a clean pre-employment drug test is required as
well as ongoing random drug testing. Must be willing to attend all training as required by the
Weatherization Assistance Program, Kentucky Housing Corporation, and Gateway Community Action.
