Job description

Altorfer's Power Systems Division supports Caterpillar engine products and accessories, including on-highway truck, industrial, marine engines, electrical switchgear and controls, and generators in both stand-by and prime power applications. The parts department also supports construction and paving applications through this location. This position supervises warehouse staff, assists the Parts Manager in managing daily operations for Addison Parts Department, and assists internal stakeholders with parts support needs.

Basic Duties
  • Supervise and support the daily operations of the Parts Department, including warehouse, inventory, warranty, parts counter, and administrative functions.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing, picking, handling, and distribution of parts for internal and external customers.
  • Plan and manage daily staffing and schedules for Warehouse, Parts Counter, and administrative employees to ensure appropriate departmental coverage.
  • Provide direction, training, coaching, and support to Parts Department employees to promote productivity, teamwork, customer service, and adherence to established processes.
  • Review and manage parts performance reports, including core returns, warranty activity, back orders, inventory accuracy, and other departmental performance measures.
  • Perform inventory control activities and related administrative duties, including inventory counts, discrepancy resolution, and inventory adjustments.
  • Oversee warehouse organization, material flow, parts storage, and logistics while identifying and resolving operational concerns.
  • Monitor parts picking and order accuracy and implement corrective actions and process improvements as needed.
  • Manage Parts Stock Warranty, Warranty Parts Hold, and Freight Warranty processes in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with internal departments and stakeholders to provide parts support and identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and customer service.
  • Assist the Parts Manager with staffing strategy, employee development, departmental planning, and operational initiatives.
  • Conduct annual employee performance reviews, regular employee check-ins, coaching, and disciplinary actions in accordance with company policies.
  • Conduct safety walk-throughs and daily safety meetings and promote a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Operate a forklift, parts delivery vehicle, or other warehouse equipment as needed.
  • Provide hands-on support in the Parts Department during emergencies, staffing shortages, or periods of increased workload.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or at least 2 years of previous parts operations and/or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Parts Department operations, with 5 to 10 years of parts department or equivalent experience.
  • Required product knowledge includes Caterpillar products, diesel and gas engines, electric power generation equipment, construction equipment, on-highway trucks, and/or other industrial products.
  • Self-motivated with strong time management, planning, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Computer proficiency required, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word; DBSI knowledge preferred.
  • Previous forklift and pallet jack experience required.
  • Excellent written, email, and verbal communication skills required.
  • Customer service experience required, with the ability to handle difficult customer situations and respond promptly to customer needs.
  • Understanding of union environments is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to safely lift to 75 lbs. and climb ladders and stairs daily.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college or technical degree preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record, with no more than two minor violations in the past three years and no major violations in the past five years. A Motor Vehicle Report will be completed for the final candidate.

This position requires work in both office and warehouse environments. The employee may sit at a desk for extended periods, answer phone calls, and use written or electronic communication. The role also requires frequent walking, climbing, bending, and lifting to 75 lbs. Approved safety equipment, including safety glasses with side shields, safety gloves, and safety-toe footwear, must be worn. Noise levels are typically low in the office and low to moderate in the warehouse. Flexibility to work overtime during peak seasons is required, and occasional local travel may be necessary. These physical demands are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of the job.
